The probe, opened in July 2024, concluded the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >district prioritized higher\u2011socioeconomic families<\/a> and created barriers for disadvantaged students, English learners, students with disabilities, foster youth, and students experiencing homelessness. That starts with enrollment,&rdquo; Bonta said in a press release.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2024, the California Department of Justice launched an investigation into whether the Sacramento school district was complying with state enrollment laws designed to ensure equal access to public education. Bonta later concluded that the district&rsquo;s open enrollment and midyear transfer policies were discriminatory and violated the California Education Code.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation found that the district prioritized families based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/zach-goldberg-the-very-bad-reason-white-democrats-want-to-defund-the-police\/\" title=\"Zach Goldberg: The Very Bad Reason White Democrats Want to Defund the Police\">higher socioeconomic status<\/a>, creating barriers for disadvantaged students, English learners, and students with disabilities. It further determined that the district unlawfully denied or delayed enrollment for foster youth and students experiencing homelessness.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The District is required to ensure that all students, regardless of race, color, national origin, or disability, are treated equally in all aspects of education, including school enrollment and school transfers,&rdquo; the complaint&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/system\/files\/attachments\/press-docs\/Complaint_9.pdf\">stated.&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tara Jeane, president of the SCUSD Board of Education, said the district cooperated with the state DOJ to identify necessary changes.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Every student, regardless of background, or ability, or the neighborhood they&rsquo;re from, deserves access to the schools and programs that best serve the whole student,&rdquo; Jeane&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scusd.edu\/p\/~board\/2025-2026\/post\/press-release-scusd-responds-to-the-california-attorney-generals-office-investigation-of-the-districts-enrollment-practices\">said.<\/a>&nbsp;&ldquo;With this agreement, it is our hope that Sacramento City Unified&rsquo;s open enrollment may become a model that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-education-lesson-from-covid-lockdowns-school-choice-is-imperative-for-every-child\/\" title=\"The ...
