The signage will remain on the Senate side until the House designates a permanent location on the West Front. The plaque&#8217;s installation was originally required by the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2022, which set a March 2023 deadline, and its delay prompted frustration and prompted some Democrats to post poster-board replicas outside their offices. House Speaker Mike Johnson has called the statute &#8220;not implementable,&#8221; and two responding officers have filed lawsuits seeking to compel installation; the Justice Department has asked to dismiss the case, saying Congress has already publicly recognized law enforcement. target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/january-6\/\">Jan. 6, 2021, <\/a>riot.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/frankthorp\/status\/2009353030966366437\">vote<\/a> directs the Architect of the Capitol to display a previously commissioned plaque honoring the Capitol Police permanent location on the West Front.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The decision follows growing frustration over the sign&rsquo;s delayed installation, which was originally authorized by the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2022.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/house-concurrent-resolution\/33\/all-actions\">law<\/a> required the plaque to be placed on the West Front by March 2023.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Despite the Senate resolution, Speaker of the House <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/mike-johnson-gives-update-january-6-riot-us-capitol-plaque-11314046\">Mike Johnson<\/a> (R-LA) said Monday that the statute authorizing the plaque is &ldquo;not implementable.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The debate over the memorial continued following President Donald Trump&rsquo;s sweeping pardons for those involved in the riot.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Since the decision on the plaque has been in limbo, mostly Democratic members of Congress have displayed <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2025\/06\/23\/congress\/democrats-replica-jan-6-plaques-00418859\">poster-board signs<\/a> in front of their doors. The signs read: &ldquo;On behalf of a grateful Congress, this plaque honors the extraordinary individuals who bravely protected and defended this symbol of democracy on Jan. 6, 2021. Their heroism will never be forgotten.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The deadlock over the memorial has now moved to the courtroom as two responding officers have filed lawsuits to compel the plaque&rsquo;s installation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department has since sought to dismiss the case, arguing Congress &ldquo;already has publicly recognized the service of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/update-washington-d-c-mayor-muriel-bowser-was-warned-but-refused-any-additional-help-before-january-6th-vote-on-stolen-election\/\" title=\"UPDATE: Washington, D.C.
