But the mourning might have had much more to do with Cuba losing its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/until-joe-biden-lets-u-s-oil-freely-flow-hes-complicit-in-putins-war-crimes\/\" title=\"Until Joe Biden Lets U.S. ... Freely Flow, He\u2019s Complicit In Putin\u2019s War Crimes\">main oil supplier<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As for China, that country has for years been the main market for Venezuelan oil that was under international sanction, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/guneyyildiz\/2026\/01\/03\/maduro-venezuela-the-us-and-the-oil-shock-china-cant-price-in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Forbes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>China responded to Maduro&rsquo;s capture by claiming it was &ldquo;deeply shocked and strongly condemns&rdquo; the action, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/americas\/world-reacts-us-strikes-venezuela-2026-01-03\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But what China &ldquo;strongly condemns&rdquo; is Venezuelan oil being used for purposes other than greasing the wheels of the Chinese economy.<\/p>\n<p>How it will now be used will be determined by Trump for the foreseeable future, and it&rsquo;s a rock-solid certainty that that use won&rsquo;t involve propping up Cuba&rsquo;s dying communist dictatorship or enriching the butchers of Beijing.<\/p>\n<p>Two decades of socialist dictatorship in Caracas &mdash; first under the late Hugo Chavez, then under Maduro &mdash; have destroyed the country&rsquo;s economy, including its all-important oil industry.<\/p>\n<p>The country has the largest oil reserves in the world, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/venezuelan-oil-industry-worlds-largest-reserves-decaying-infrastructure-2026-01-03\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reported Saturday, but &ldquo;its crude output remains at a fraction of capacity due to mismanagement, lack of investment and sanctions, official data shows.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>All that&rsquo;s due for a change, as shown by Maduro&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/maduro-pleads-not-guilty-tells-new-york-court-still-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appearance as a prisoner<\/a> in a federal courtroom in New York on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The value of the oil in Trump&rsquo;s announcement varies widely between 30 million and 50 million barrels.
