The court said the move, grounded in the constitution, was necessary for &#8220;administrative continuity&#8221; because Maduro is in a &#8220;material and temporary impossibility&#8221; to carry out his duties. Rodr\u00edguez&#8217;s location is uncertain-there were reports she was in Russia-but she later appeared on television insisting Maduro remains the country&#8217;s only president and condemning the U.S. attack. President Trump said Rodr\u00edguez had been sworn in and reportedly spoke with Senator Marco Rubio, suggesting she indicated willingness to cooperate, while also saying the U.S. would temporarily &#8220;run&#8221; Venezuela. The court said in its order that Maduro is currently in a &ldquo;material and temporary impossibility to exercise his functions.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>There is some doubt, however, that Rodriguez is still in the country after the U.S. strikes on Caracas. An earlier <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/americas\/venezuela-vice-president-rodriguez-russia-four-sources-say-2026-01-03\/\">report<\/a> placed her in Russia, while later Saturday she gave a televised address to Venezuelans.<\/p>\n<p>In that address, Rodriguez insisted Maduro is the &ldquo;only&rdquo; president of Venezuela, while condemning the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Those comments appeared to contradict President Donald Trump&rsquo;s statement in a press conference after the strikes on Saturday, when he signaled Rodriguez is amenable to any leadership changes.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;She was sworn in as president just a little while ago,&rdquo; Trump said of Rodriguez. &ldquo;She had a long conversation with Marco [Rubio], and she said, &lsquo;We&rsquo;ll do whatever you need.&rsquo; I think she was quite gracious, but she really doesn&rsquo;t have a choice.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/4400827\/venezuela-new-president-cooperating-with-trump-after-maduros-capture\/\"><strong>WHO IS DELCY RODRIGUEZ? VENEZUELA&rsquo;S NEW PRESIDENT COOPERATING WITH TRUMP AFTER MADURO&rsquo;S CAPTURE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is unclear at this time whether Trump would seek Rodriguez&rsquo;s ouster as well, given she is a holdover from the Maduro regime.
