Moon previously served as the House of Representatives&#8217; chief diversity officer (appointed during Nancy Pelosi&#8217;s speakership), and has held roles at Girl Scouts USA and the Commerce Department&#8217;s NIST; she was also recognized by the United Nations as one of &#8220;100 of the Most Influential People of African Descent.&#8221; The appointment drew scrutiny after Moon appeared to agree on an August 2024 podcast wiht a guest who suggested parts of the U.S. Constitution should be dismantled; Moon also has described DEI as &#8220;a constitutional mandate&#8221; at a Forbes BLK Summit event. However, during part of an August 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=mzrQ2G5_sC0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">appearance<\/a> on Raben&rsquo;s &ldquo;The Ask&rdquo; podcast, Moon appeared to agree with Whitney Tome, the managing principal at Raben, after Tome claimed that some parts of the U.S. Constitution should be dismantled.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Even the fundamental structure of our Constitution is flawed, like everybody quotes &lsquo;we the people&rsquo; [and] all the things, and I&rsquo;m with us, generally speaking, but I also have to look and say like &lsquo;yeah but there&rsquo;s a lot of things in the Constitution that didn&rsquo;t say I was a person,&rsquo;&rdquo; BLK <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/forbesliveteam\/2024\/06\/06\/2024-forbesblk-summit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Summit<\/a> in June 2024 that she believes DEI is &ldquo;a constitutional mandate.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I believe a couple of things that I think are really important. I truly do approach this work from a nonpartisan lens. For me, DEI is not a red or blue issue,&rdquo; Moon said. &ldquo;It is actually a constitutional mandate.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I am deeply honored by my nomination as the next Chief Diversity Officer and Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Commonwealth of Virginia,&rdquo; Moon said in a Tuesday statement. &ldquo;As a proud Virginia native, I look forward to joining the cabinet of Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger as her <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >historic administration works<\/a> to advance a future in which all Virginians have access to opportunity &mdash; to include residents from some of the hardest-to-reach communities throughout the Commonwealth.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Moon previously served as the House of Representatives&rsquo; chief diversity officer during the 117th and 118th Congresses &mdash; a role to which she was <a href=\"https:\/\/richmond.com\/news\/state-and-regional\/govt-and-politics\/article_39d32f4c-f660-11ec-a2e9-9f00f3ec5a9e.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appointed<\/a> by former Speaker Nancy Pelosi &mdash; according to the news release from Spanberger&rsquo;s transition team.<\/p>\n<p>Some of Moon&rsquo;s other previous roles include serving as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/prince-harry-hired-as-chief-impact-officer-for-mental-health-start-up\/\" title=\"Prince Harry Hired As \u2018Chief Impact Officer\u2019 For Mental Health Start-Up\">chief impact officer<\/a> for Girl Scouts USA and the chief diversity officer for the National Institute of Standards and Technology at the Commerce Department, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/seshajoimoon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to her LinkedIn profile.
