New York has among the <a href=\"https:\/\/turbotax.intuit.com\/tax-tips\/fun-facts\/states-with-the-highest-and-lowest-taxes\/L6HPAVqSF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">highest taxes<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfoundation.org\/research\/all\/state\/2025-state-tax-competitiveness-index\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the country<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It&rsquo;s disgraceful. People live off of tips,&rdquo; Zoe Kalodimos, 30, a waitress at Embassy Diner in Bethpage, Long Island, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/26\/us-news\/hochul-wont-serve-up-trumps-no-tax-on-tips-policy-ticking-off-ny-restaurant-workers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> the New York Post.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;For [Hochul] to do that is just, it&rsquo;s disheartening. That&rsquo;s my livelihood, that&rsquo;s how I eat and feed myself and my family.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>While Hochul has finally boarded the &ldquo;no tax on tips&rdquo; train, she may have reversed course on whether she would support newly sworn-in Mayor Zohran Mamdani raising taxes on the wealthier New York City residents.<\/p>\n<p>Before his election in June, she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/power-will-mamdani-actually-implement-socialist-agenda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> reporters, &ldquo;I have said that I will not raise income taxes on the people of our state. I&rsquo;m focused on affordability, and raising taxes on anyone does not accomplish that. I&rsquo;m just making sure that people who create jobs will stay here so we can have good-paying jobs.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>But after Mamdani&rsquo;s victory in November, Politico <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/kathy-hochul-already-talking-raising-taxes-fund-zohran-mamdanis-plans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that Hochul and her advisers had been mulling over how exactly to help fund his grand plans, and one possibility they discussed was raising taxes on higher-income individuals and companies.<\/p>\n<p>New York State already has one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-gop-demanding-answers-on-if-irs-leaking-thousands-of-americans-tax-filings-was-political\/\" title=\"House GOP Demanding Answers on If IRS Leaking Thousands of Americans&#039; ...
