Jared Polis and Mesa County District Attorney Daniel Rubinstein to &#8220;rot in hell&#8221; after Peters was sentenced to nine years in prison for tampering with election equipment to promote unsubstantiated 2020 fraud claims. Trump &#8211; who earlier issued a symbolic &#8220;full pardon&#8221; that many legal experts and Colorado Democrats say cannot nullify state convictions &#8211; called Peters a political prisoner on Truth Social, saying she is sick and unjustly jailed at age 73. FREE TINA PETERS!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Peters&rsquo;s legal team <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/crime\/3912375\/tina-peters-requests-trump-pardon-after-reported-prison-attacks\/\">previously requested<\/a> a pardon from the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house\/\">White House<\/a>, arguing that language in the Constitution allows presidents to issue pardons for state convictions. In making their case for a presidential pardon, the lawyers cited multiple prison attacks against their client. (AP Photo\/David Zalubowski, File)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The clemency action is widely unrecognized by Colorado Democrats, who argue it does not apply to state-level charges.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;No President has jurisdiction over state law nor the power to pardon a person for state convictions,&rdquo; Polis said at the time. &ldquo;This is a matter for the courts to decide, and we will abide by court orders.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> contacted Polis&rsquo;s office for comment in response to Trump&rsquo;s latest message.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican district attorney in question criticized the president&rsquo;s statement.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;There&rsquo;s a saying in the law: if the facts are on your side, pound the facts; if the law is on your side, pound the law; if neither is on your side, pound the table,&rdquo; Rubinstein said in a statement to the <em>Hill<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;President Trump has no facts and no law here,&rdquo; he added. &ldquo;After trying and failing to invent both, he&rsquo;s left with nothing but pounding the table.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3915840\/trump-pardon-tina-peters\/\">TRUMP GRANTS &lsquo;FULL PARDON&rsquo; TO TINA PETERS AFTER 2020 ELECTION INTERFERENCE CONVICTION<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Peters&rsquo;s appeal of her conviction is being processed through Colorado&rsquo;s court system.
