A federal court entered a stipulated order against Disney Worldwide Services and Disney Entertainment Operations after the Department of Justice announced the settlement; the FTC had previously ordered the same penalty in a related action. The government said Disney failed to designate some youtube content as directed to children, collected data from viewers under 13, and targeted advertising to them. The order bars Disney from operating on YouTube in ways that violate COPPA and requires the company to implement a compliance program for its YouTube content. - the Christmas hope we seek\">disclosing personal information<\/a> from minors under age 13 unless they obtain parental consent before collecting such information.<\/p>\n<p>Disney allegedly failed to say its YouTube video content was directed toward children and unlawfully collected children&rsquo;s data without parental notice and consent, the federal government <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/system\/files\/ftc_gov\/pdf\/DisneyComplaint.pdf\">argued in the complaint<\/a>. As mentioned in the case, the entertainment giant also targeted advertising toward children.<\/p>\n<p>The stipulated order prevents Disney from operating on YouTube in violation of COPPA. It also requires Disney to create a program that ensures compliance with the law on YouTube.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Justice Department is firmly devoted to ensuring parents have a say in how their children&rsquo;s information is collected and used,&rdquo; DOJ Civil Division Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/disney-agrees-10m-civil-penalty-and-injunction-alleged-violations-childrens-privacy-laws\">said in a statement<\/a>. &ldquo;The Department will take swift action to root out any unlawful infringement on parents&rsquo; rights to protect their children&rsquo;s privacy.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> contacted Disney for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The settlement was filed in court nearly four months after Disney was <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/news-events\/news\/press-releases\/2025\/09\/disney-pay-10-million-settle-ftc-allegations-company-enabled-unlawful-collection-childrens-personal\">ordered to pay<\/a> the $10 million fine to resolve allegations made by the FTC. The agency said Disney unlawfully collected personal information from children who viewed &ldquo;Made for Kids&rdquo; videos on YouTube without notifying parents or obtaining parental consent.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/entertainment\/3915474\/media-personalities-lost-jobs-2025-matthew-dowd-terry-moran\/\">MEDIA PERSONALITIES WHO LOST THEIR JOBS OVER NEWS BIAS IN 2025<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In September, a Disney spokesperson said the settlement was limited to the distribution of its YouTube content and did not involve any Disney-owned platforms.
