U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria (Northern district of California) denied a request by multiple states for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federal-trade-commission-review-could-throw-wrench-in-amazon-mgm-merger\/\" title=\"Federal Trade Commission Review Could Throw Wrench in Amazon-MGM Merger\">preliminary injunction blocking<\/a> that data sharing, finding HHS and DHS adequately explained their policies and that sharing basic biographical, location, and contact information is authorized by law. The allowed categories are limited to citizenship,immigration status,address,phone number,date of birth,and Medicaid ID. Chhabria, though, granted the states&#8217; request to block the sharing of any othre types of Medicaid information, saying the policies were unclear about what additional data would be shared and why it would be needed. An earlier injunction had prohibited sharing in the plaintiff states through Jan. 5,2026; the new order takes effect Jan. 6, 2026, permitting data sharing nationwide, including in those states. He extended that preliminary injunction through Jan. 5, 2026, in early December. On Jan. 6, 2026, the new order will take effect, and the agencies can continue sharing data across the United States, including in the plaintiff states.<\/p>\n<p>Chhabria specified in the order that HHS can share &ldquo;basic biographical, location, and contact information,&rdquo; limited to any of the six following categories: citizenship, immigration status, address, phone number, date of birth, and Medicaid ID.<\/p>\n<p>However, Chhabria granted the states&rsquo; motion for a preliminary injunction on the sharing of any information outside of those categories of basic biographical, location, and contact information.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/4363620\/democrats-stop-ice-working-local-police-nationwide\/\">DEMOCRATS MOVE TO STOP ICE FROM WORKING WITH LOCAL POLICE NATIONWIDE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The new policies are totally unclear about what that information would be, why it would be needed for immigration enforcement purposes, and what the risks of sharing it with DHS would be,&rdquo; he wrote about any further data.<\/p>\n<p>The plaintiff states in the lawsuit are California, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii,<br \/>Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey,<br \/>New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin.
