New York City saw about four inches, while central eastern Long Island reported over six inches and the Catskills up to 10 inches. Airports including Newark, JFK and LaGuardia warned of possible flight impacts, and the National Weather Service cautioned about hazardous travel, potential tree damage and power outages. Forecasters said the storm was weakening by Saturday morning, and roads and skies where beginning to clear. At least 1,500 flights were canceled from Friday night, according to flight-tracking service FlightAware. Further to the north in the Catskills, communities saw as much as 10 inches (25 centimeters) of snowfall.<\/p>\n<p>Newark Liberty International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport posted snow warnings on the social media platform X on Friday, cautioning that weather conditions could cause flight disruptions.<a><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The National Weather Service warned of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/first-major-storm-of-the-season-drops-up-to-a-foot-of-snow-in-montana\/\" title=\"First big ... of the season blankets Montana with up to 12 inches of ....\">hazardous travel conditions<\/a> from the Great Lakes through the northern mid-Atlantic and southern New England, with the potential for tree damage and power outages. Forecasters said the storm was expected to weaken by Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3926044\/trump-warns-government-shutdown-obamacare\/\">TRUMP WARNS OF JANUARY GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN OVER OBAMACARE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In Times Square on Saturday, workers in red jumpsuits worked to clear the sludge and powder-coated streets and sidewalks using shovels and snowblowers.<\/p>\n<p>Jennifer Yokley, who was in Times Square on a holiday trip from North Carolina, said she was excited to see snow accumulating as it dusted buildings, trees and signs throughout the city.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I think it was absolutely beautiful,&rdquo; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Payton Baker and Kolby Gray, who were visiting New York City from <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/west-virginia\/\">West Virginia<\/a> on Saturday, said the snow was a Christmas surprise for their third anniversary trip.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Well, it&rsquo;s very cold and it was very unexpected,&rdquo; Baker said, her breath visible in the winter air. &ldquo;The city is working pretty well to get all the roads salted and everything, so it&rsquo;s all right.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/in_focus\/4362111\/despite-strong-gdp-numbers-several-economic-alarm-bells-ringing-gop\/\">DESPITE STRONG GDP NUMBERS, SEVERAL ECONOMIC ALARM BELLS ARE RINGING FOR GOP<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the storm, New York Gov. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kathy-hochul\/\">Kathy Hochul<\/a> declared a state of emergency for more than half of the state. Acting New Jersey Gov. Tahesha Way declared a state of emergency for all of New Jersey, &ldquo;due to a severe winter storm causing dangerous weather conditions, including heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This storm will cause <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >dangerous road conditions<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/countdown-to-chaos-the-new-date-to-know-after-congress-narrowly-avoided-disaster\/\" title=\"Countdown to chaos averted: Congress narrowly avoids disaster, new date to remember.\">impact holiday travel<\/a>,&rdquo; Way said in a statement. &ldquo;We are urging travelers to avoid travel during the storm and allow crews to tend to the roads.
