The cost is also the lowest U.S. fuel price since March 2021 (per the EIA), with 40 states now averaging under $3 per gallon and 11 areas above $3. Examiner\">lowest national average price<\/a> for a gallon of regular gasoline on a Christmas Day since 2020, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/dnav\/pet\/hist\/LeafHandler.ashx?n=PET&amp;s=EMM_EPMR_PTE_NUS_DPG&amp;f=W\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">when it was $2.224 per gallon during the week of Dec. 21, 2020<\/a>. Currently, 40 states in the U.S. have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/national-gas-price-average-reaches-4-per-gallon-for-first-time-since-2008\/\" title=\"National ... ... ... Of the 11 remaining areas with gas prices over $3 per gallon, which includes Washington, D.C., eight are states with Democratic governors.<\/p>\n<p>Fuel costs have gradually decreased since the end of October and early November. On Oct. 2, the national average price for a gallon of gas was $3.16. By the end of the month, gas prices had dropped to $3.04 per gallon. After fluctuations and flirtations with fuel prices under the $3 per gallon threshold throughout November, the national average <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3903578\/gas-price-average-falls-to-under-3-per-gallon-for-first-time-since-2021\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gas prices fell under $3 for the first time in four years on Dec. 2<\/a>. They&rsquo;ve continued falling ever since. A week ago, the national average for a gallon of regular gas was $2.896, and on Christmas Eve, prices had dropped to $2.854 per gallon.<\/p>\n<p>As mentioned above, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >gas prices vary<\/a> throughout the U.S., depending on the region of the country. The West Coast has the most expensive gas prices in the country, while states in the Gulf of America and the Midwest typically have the lowest. Iowa has the next lowest gas prices at $2.391. This is followed by Arkansas at $2.401 per gallon and Texas at $2.429 per gallon. Colorado is next with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-lawmakers-look-to-suspend-state-gas-tax-for-a-year\/\" title=\"California Lawmakers Look to Suspend State ... Tax for a Year\">statewide average price<\/a> of $2.445.<\/p>\n<p>Hawaii has the most expensive gas prices in the country, significantly higher than the national average, with a cost of $4.429 per gallon. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/california\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">California<\/a> is next at $4.289. Next is the state of Washington at $3.903 per gallon.
