Plaintiffs say Vought&#8217;s position is part of a broader effort to disable the CFPB after mass layoffs and budget cuts this year and warn the bureau could run out of money by early 2026. Filed in U.S. District Court in Eugene, Oregon, the complaint asks the court to declare Vought&#8217;s funding decisions unlawful and to rule that the Fed&#8217;s combined earnings mean gross revenues without deducting expenses. Forensic Report BOMBSHELL Reveals Dominion Machines Were Set At 68.05% Error Rate\u2026Meaning 68.05% Of Ballots Could Be Sent Out For Mass Adjudication, Giving Individuals Or Machines Ability To Change 68.05% Of Votes\">assistant attorney general<\/a> for the Office of Special Counsel, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3882802\/trump-administration-determines-cfpb-funding-mechanism-is-unlawful\/\">wrote in November<\/a> that the OSC determined these &ldquo;combined earnings&rdquo; of the Fed, which fund the CFPB, refer to the profits of the Fed, and the Fed has not been profitable since 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;If the Federal Reserve has no profits, it cannot transfer money to the CFPB,&rdquo; Gaiser <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3882802\/trump-administration-determines-cfpb-funding-mechanism-is-unlawful\/\">wrote<\/a>. &ldquo;Because the only lawful source of funding from the Federal Reserve has dried up, the proper method for obtaining additional funds is to request them from Congress.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>With the majority in both chambers of Congress, the GOP <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/finance-and-economy\/3469283\/consumer-financial-protection-bureau-survives-latest-gop-threat\/\">does not look so favorably<\/a> upon the market oversight agency that was the brainchild of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA). The administration wrote in a previous <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.cadc.41898\/gov.uscourts.cadc.41898.01208794293.0.pdf\">court filing<\/a> that the CFPB &ldquo;does not know whether and the extent to which Congress will appropriate funding&rdquo; for it.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court in Eugene, Oregon, requests that the court rule that Vought&rsquo;s funding determinations are unlawful. It also asks the court to declare that the Fed&rsquo;s combined earnings &ldquo;means the Federal Reserve&rsquo;s gross revenues without any deduction for its expenses.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3892162\/trump-taps-new-cfpb-nominee-vought-aims-ax-agency\/\">TRUMP TAPS NEW CFPB NOMINEE AS VOUGHT AIMS TO AX AGENCY<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Trump Administration&rsquo;s latest effort to destroy the CFPB means&nbsp;that hundreds of thousands of consumer complaints&nbsp;will&nbsp;fall on deaf ears,&rdquo; California Attorney General Rob Bonta, a plaintiff in the lawsuit, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;By refusing to fund the CFPB, even when legal and appropriate funding mechanisms are available, the Trump Administration has sharpened its message&nbsp;that it does not care&nbsp;about affordability, that it does not care to be on the side of families and working Americans,&rdquo; he added. &ldquo;California cares.
