Sasse described having less time than he&#8217;d like, emphasized growing closer to his wife Melissa and their three children, and said the family is embracing gallows humor while preparing for treatment. Advanced pancreatic is nasty stuff; it&rsquo;s a death sentence. But I already had a death sentence before last week too &mdash; we all do.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Sasse was a Republican senator for Nebraska from 2015 to 2023. He became the University of Florida&rsquo;s president in February 2023, before stepping down in July 2024, citing his wife&rsquo;s epilepsy diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I&rsquo;ve got less time than I&rsquo;d prefer. This is hard for someone wired to work and build, but harder still as a husband and a dad,&rdquo; he wrote, then describing growing closer to his wife and his children.<\/p>\n<p>He said he felt there was never a good time to announce the diagnosis, but that &ldquo;the season of <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >advent isn&#038;rsquo<\/a>;t the worst.&rdquo; Sasse professed his faith, but noted he wasn&rsquo;t &ldquo;going down without a fight,&rdquo; and that he would have more to say in the future.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Death and dying aren&rsquo;t the same &mdash; the process of dying is still something to be lived.
