Federal prosecutors say the scheme &#8211; in which a majority of those charged are Somali immigrants &#8211; targeted multiple social-service programs, including a COVID-era child-feeding program, homelessness supports, and autism therapy, and may have involved billions in stolen taxpayer dollars. Comer has asked Gov.Tim Walz and Minnesota Attorney General Keith ellison for documents and says Walz has not cooperated; he accused Democrats of turning a blind eye. President Trump recently terminated temporary protected status for Somalis after reports tied the fraud to funds allegedly funneled to al-Shabaab, a move criticized by Democrats. Democrats turned a blind eye to this fraud. Republicans won&rsquo;t.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The alleged fraud, of which the majority charged are Somali immigrants, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >targeted multiple government social services programs<\/a> in Minnesota, including one intended to feed children during the COVID-19 pandemic under Gov. Tim Walz&rsquo;s (D-MN) leadership, with federal prosecutors saying billions of taxpayer dollars could have been stolen.<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota programs meant to support providers in assisting people at risk of homelessness, and another meant to provide therapy for autistic children, were also purportedly defrauded.<\/p>\n<p>The House Oversight Committee launched its investigation into the matter earlier this month, with Comer calling on Walz and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison to provide any documents in relation to the fraud scandal that occurred in the state. The committee said Walz has failed to cooperate with the committee&rsquo;s requests.<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump announced last month in a Truth Social post that he was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dhs-terminates-temporary-protected-status-for-haitians\/\" title=\"DHS terminates temporary protected status for Haitians\">terminating temporary protected status<\/a> for Somalis in the state. The president&rsquo;s move came after a&nbsp;<em>City Journal&nbsp;<\/em>report&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.city-journal.org\/article\/minnesota-welfare-fraud-somalia-al-shabaab?utm_source=virtuous&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=cjdaily\">alleged millions<\/a>&nbsp;of Minnesota taxpayer dollars were&nbsp;stolen&nbsp;in the fraud scheme and were funneled to the Somali-based al Shabaab terrorist group.<\/p>\n<p>Many Democrats, including Walz, have criticized the administration&rsquo;s illegal immigration&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/3905016\/homan-confirms-ice-surge-coming-to-twin-cities-following-somali-fraud-investigation\/\">crackdown<\/a>&nbsp;and Trump&rsquo;s move to&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/3895787\/trump-terminating-temporary-protected-status-somalis-minnesota\/\">terminate the temporary protected status <\/a>of Somalis living in Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3923936\/gop-rebels-hakeem-jeffries-big-win-forcing-vote-obamacare-extensions\/\"><strong>REPUBLICAN REBELS HAND JEFFRIES BIG WIN BY FORCING VOTE ON OBAMACARE EXTENSIONS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Walz has pledged that an audit will be conducted by late January to provide a better understanding, while saying his administration is taking aggressive action to prevent further fraud.
