The scale of the fraud is described as staggering, with First Assistant U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson estimating that since 2018,half or more of $18 billion billed through state programs may have been lost to fraud. The investigation covers fourteen programs, many involving the Somali immigrant community.<\/p>\n<p>Among the charged are residents from Philadelphia accused of fraudulently obtaining $3.5 million from a housing program using fake companies. Another individual, Kaamil Omar Sallah, is accused of wire fraud through his company SafeLodgings, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-judge-finds-trump-liable-for-fraud\/\" title=\"NY Judge: Trump Found Guilty of ...\">allegedly inflated<\/a> billing hours and claimed for unprovided services, billing Medicaid for implausibly high hours worked.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally,Abdinajib Hassan Yussuf was charged with fraud related to an autism intervention program,accused of recruiting Somali families to falsely claim benefits and receiving over $6 million through kickbacks. \t\t\t\t}); \t\t\t} \t\t<\/script> <\/p>\n<p>Thompson said that since 2018, he estimated &nbsp;&ldquo;half or more&rdquo; of the $18 billion was paid out due to fraud, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/kstp.com\/kstp-news\/top-news\/half-or-more-of-18-billion-billed-through-state-programs-tied-to-fraud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KTSP-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Thompson announced indictments against what he called &ldquo;fraud tourists.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Anthony Waddell Jefferson, 37, and Lester Brown, 53, both of Philadelphia, were charged with raking in $3.5 million from the housing program through the use of fake companies.<\/p>\n<p>Three other people were charged with fraud linked to the housing program.<\/p>\n<p>One of them, Kaamil Omar Sallah, 26, is charged with four counts of wire fraud.<\/p>\n<p>According to state records, his company, SafeLodgings, Inc., allegedly inflated its billing hours and filed claims for services that were not provided.<\/p>\n<p>SafeLodgings, Inc., claimed workers provided housing services to multiple people in the same time frame.<\/p>\n<p>Sallah allegedly billed Medicaid for 3,600 hours in 2024, which would amount to about 10 hours of work every day of the year.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">&#128680;
