Despite opposition from some Republican lawmakers concerned about addiction and public safety, Trump emphasized that the order does not legalize recreational marijuana use. He highlighted the potential of medical marijuana as a less addictive choice to opioids for pain management. The order directs Attorney General Pam Bondi to expedite the rescheduling process and tasks White House officials with working alongside Congress to improve access to safe, full-spectrum CBD products while restricting those that pose health risks, notably intoxicating hemp products. At the same time, the facts compel the federal government to recognize that marijuana can be legitimate in terms of medical applications when carefully administered in some cases.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump specifically noted the benefits of substituting medical marijuana for more addictive painkillers, including opiates, and suggested that &ldquo;this can do it in a much lesser way, can make people feel much better that are living through tremendous pain and problems.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump had previously vowed to reschedule marijuana on the 2024 campaign trail, an initiative started by President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\">Joe Biden<\/a>&lsquo;s administration in 2023, and even called for loosening sentences for minor marijuana criminal offenses.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday&rsquo;s order does not amend federal criminal penalties for marijuana possession or institute any banking or taxing reforms for the cannabis industry, but <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3919174\/susie-wiles-slams-vanity-fair-hit-piece-trump-team\/\">senior administration officials<\/a> said ahead of the president&rsquo;s signing ceremony that the measure is specifically interested in researching the &ldquo;potential medical benefits&rdquo; and possible harms of marijuana use.<\/p>\n<p>Trump &ldquo;has directed a commonsense approach that will automatically start working to improve the medical marijuana and CBD research to better inform patients and doctors,&rdquo; one official said Thursday morning. &ldquo;That&rsquo;s the primary goal.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The order itself directs Attorney General <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3919174\/susie-wiles-slams-vanity-fair-hit-piece-trump-team\/\">Pam Bondi<\/a> to &ldquo;expedite the completion of the process of rescheduling marijuana to Schedule III of the Controlled Substances Act.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Trump is directing White House deputy chief of staff James Blair to work with Congress to &ldquo;allow Americans to benefit from access to appropriate full spectrum CBD products, while still restricting the sale and access to products that cause serious and <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >potentially life threatening health risks<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The 2018 farm bill included a provision legalizing the sale and possession of hemp-derived low-THC and CBD products. However, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/weekend-media-wrap-vol-36-what-you-missed-if-you-werent-glued-to-the-sunday-shows\/\" title=\"Weekend Media Recap: Highlights from the Sunday Shows You Need to Know\">latest government funding bill<\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/restoring-america\/community-family\/3890434\/trump-hemp-ban-huge-victory-public-health\/\">placed a firm limit<\/a>, 2.4 milligrams or less of THC per container, on those products, effectively outlawing the majority of the hemp-derived products that have gone to market over the past seven years.<\/p>\n<p>Trump &ldquo;would like to distinguish that he still wants to restrict access, which we believe was the intent of Congress when they passed that provision restricting access, to products that have been on the market that caused serious health risks,&rdquo; a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-kills-ayman-al-zawahiri-leader-of-al-qaeda\/\" title=\"US Kills Ayman Al-Zawahiri, Leader Of Al Qaeda\">senior administration official explained<\/a>. &ldquo;These are commonly known as intoxicating hemp products.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The administration also plans to launch new models at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, delivering new access to medically prescribed CBD treatments for beneficiaries.
