Wiles, she said, has too much experience not to have done certain things deliberately during that interview.<\/p>\n<p>The chief of staff, for instance, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/news\/story\/trump-susie-wiles-interview-exclusive-part-1?srsltid=AfmBOooZRBJgIb2NJVX-p8LivabJOIWnGg6Cd3Z7rolw9FPK16mNWAdq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">implied<\/a> that X owner Elon Musk, formerly the head of President Donald Trump&rsquo;s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has a drug problem. Wiles also called Vice President J.D. Vance &ldquo;sort of&rdquo; a political opportunist and a &ldquo;conspiracy theorist.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>After the interview&rsquo;s publication, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-chief-staff-susie-wiles-issues-statement-stunning-d-c-friendly-fire-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wiles<\/a> accused Vanity Fair of concocting a &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/luna-clarifies-claims-trump-offered-her-bed-on-his-plane-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Luna clarifies claims Trump offered her bed on his plane - Washington Examiner\">hit piece&#038;rdquo<\/a>; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-times-confuses-jd-vances-obvious-joke-for-something-more-ominous\/\" title=\"New York Times Confuses JD Vance&#039;s Obvious Joke for Something More Ominous\">excluding crucial context<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, when asked about the comments from Wiles, whom some Trump supporters view as an establishment voice inside the White House, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/jd-vance-responds-controversial-susie-wiles-interview-sometimes-conspiracy-theorist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vance<\/a> delivered a savvy response that defused immediate tensions.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, there is some red meat here. Wiles said things she should not have said. Moreover &mdash; and Figaro had this much correct &mdash; the chief of staff knows better than to make such elementary mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>For his part, Jennings asked journalist Chris Whipple, author of the Vanity Fair piece and one of the CNN panelists on Tuesday, whether the interview might actually have revealed how much confidence Trump has in Wiles. No doubt Jennings was eager to move on from Figaro&rsquo;s &ldquo;take the fall&rdquo; nonsense.<\/p>\n<p>Still, one could almost feel Jennings&rsquo; proverbial facepalm after such an absurd suggestion.
