Brian fitzpatrick, Mike Lawler, Rob Bresnahan, and Ryan Mackenzie-joined Democrats in a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >bipartisan effort led<\/a> by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries too force a vote on extending enhanced Obamacare subsidies. These subsidies, which help reduce health insurance costs, are set to expire on December 31. By signing a discharge petition gathering the necessary 218 signatures, they compelled Speaker Mike Johnson to address the issue despite resistance from House leadership, who had previously blocked attempts to bring the extension to a vote in the House Rules Commitee. The proposed extension would last three years. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) was the first to sign a Jeffries-led discharge petition, swiftly followed by Reps. Mike Lawler (R-NY), Rob Bresnahan (R-PA), and Ryan Mackenzie (R-PA), to get to the necessary 218 signatures, forcing the hand of Speaker <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mike-johnson\/\">Mike Johnson<\/a> (R-LA). They made their dramatic move Wednesday morning after their efforts were nixed in the House Rules Committee on Tuesday night. Shortly after Fitzpatrick made the move to sign, he was joined by Lawler, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3920428\/lawler-blasts-decision-not-to-vote-on-obamacare-subsidies\/\">who earlier said it was &ldquo;political malpractice&rdquo;<\/a> not to have a vote on extending the subsidies.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of the centrist Republican frustration and Obamacare drama, a GOP-led healthcare bill, which does not include the subsidies, is still set to proceed later Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Letting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/to-cut-waste-stop-obamacare-subsidies-for-zombie-enrollees\/\" title=\"To Cut Waste, Stop ... For &#039;Zombie Enrollees&#039;\">credits expire<\/a> is not a good option, so I just think we need a responsible bridge,&rdquo; Fitzpatrick said Tuesday before the Rules Committee meeting. &ldquo;We are leaving no stone unturned. We want to pursue every single path, exhaust every remedy.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/3919858\/house-rules-committee-nixes-last-ditch-effort-extend-obamacare-subsidies\/\">HOUSE RULES COMMITTEE TANKS CENTRIST REPUBLICANS LAST-DITCH EFFORT TO EXTEND OBAMACARE SUBSIDIES<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fitzpatrick&rsquo;s decision to sign the Democratic-led discharge petition came after Johnson said Tuesday that there&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3919342\/mike-johnson-no-house-vote-obamacare-subsidies\/\">would be no vote&nbsp;<\/a>on Obamacare subsidies because &ldquo;it just was not to be&rdquo; and a heated luncheon with many of the party&rsquo;s centrists.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of whether a House vote on Obamacare subsidies is forced, they will still expire at the end of the year, as the Senate has given no indication it plans to hold a vote before January 2026.<\/p>\n<p><em>This is a developing story.
