But the apology and explanation provided to President Trump for doctoring a video of his speech has clearly not been sufficient to avoid a lawsuit.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;For the sake of the licence fee payer, the BBC and government need to do more,&rdquo; he added.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC documentary featuring the edited speech will not be broadcast on the network, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3886706\/bbc-apology-trump-speech-edit-defamation\/\">statement the BBC<\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3886706\/bbc-apology-trump-speech-edit-defamation\/\">made<\/a> when it apologized in November. Additionally, BBC Director General Tim Davie and CEO Deborah Turness <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/3882477\/bbc-executive-tim-davie-tells-staff-fight-for-journalism-without-addressing-trump-lawsuit\/\">resigned as a result<\/a> of the controversy.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The licence fee payer should not suffer because of the mistakes made by a bunch of left-wing journalists who failed to uphold the BBC&rsquo;s standards,&rdquo; Huddleston added.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said, &ldquo;The BBC has been institutionally biased for decades,&rdquo; when it was floated that Trump would sue the BBC.<\/p>\n<p>Other news outlets have recently settled lawsuits with Trump.&nbsp;ABC News settled a lawsuit with Trump regarding George Stephanopoulos&rsquo;s comment that Trump was &ldquo;liable for rape.&rdquo; The network <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3261020\/stephanopoulos-abc-news-ordered-to-apologize-pay-15-million-trump-defamation-settlement\/\">paid the president $15 million<\/a>.
