In the immediate aftermath, former President Donald Trump made a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >controversial social media post linking<\/a> the deaths to Reiner&#8217;s outspoken criticism of Trump and what Trump called &#8220;Trump Derangement Syndrome&#8221; (TDS), suggesting a political motive. However, there is no public evidence supporting a political connection, and many-including some of Trump&#8217;s own supporters-criticized his comments as inappropriate and distasteful. He was in custody Monday with bail set at $4 million, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/celebrities\/2025\/12\/15\/rob-reiner-son-nick-reiner-arrested-death-michele-singer\/87775318007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The newspaper did not specify a criminal charge.<\/p>\n<p>Trump&rsquo;s assertion of a political angle into what appears to be a family tragedy was unwelcome, even among those who said they otherwise back the president.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I love you but this is seriously distasteful,&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@rebecca4USA\/posts\/115724314262548352\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote one<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Not classy. Expect better of you Mr. President,&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@psitticine\/posts\/115724321405740480\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote another<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Sir, Mr. President&hellip;.,&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@CaroleK\/posts\/115724444605295145\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote another<\/a>.<br \/> &ldquo;I love you. I support you 100%.<br \/> &ldquo;I DO NOT SUPPORT THIS POST.<br \/> &ldquo;Highly inappropriate, and it puts us in their box. Tacky and tasteless.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>There were many more along those lines.<\/p>\n<p>Reiner was well-known for loathing Trump, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/answering-rob-reiner-yes-christians-can-support-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">even arguing<\/a> that Christians shouldn&rsquo;t support him.<\/p>\n<p>He was well-known <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/veggietales-creator-joins-rob-reiner-create-anti-christian-documentary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">for his dislike<\/a> of the conservative movement and for supporting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hollywood-hotshots-waging-war-lauren-boebert\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opponents of Republican politicians<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But nothing about the deaths of Reiner and Singer that has been publicly released links the killings to any political motivation.<\/p>\n<p>Reiner had also received rare praise from conservatives recently for his measured reaction to the assassination of Charlie Kirk &mdash; while many of his fellow leftists openly gloated and cheered.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It&rsquo;s beyond belief what happened to him. That should never happen to anybody,&rdquo; Reiner <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ritchCFC\/status\/2000408808317981051\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told interviewer Piers Morgan<\/a>. &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t care what your political beliefs are.
