These figures were delayed due to a federal government shutdown from October 1 to november 12, which also caused the October report to be skipped. While the national unemployment rate increased slightly to 4.4% in September, Colorado’s rate has been trending downward over recent months. The number of unemployed in Colorado dropped by 4,800 to 134,300, but the state’s labor force also declined by 3,400 to 3.27 million, contrasting with national labor force growth. Colorado maintains a higher labor force participation rate (67.3%) compared to the national average (62.4%). Government employment grew by 700 jobs in September despite budget concerns, while the private sector lost 200 jobs, though over the past year both sectors saw job increases. The professional and business sector experienced the largest job gains in September, while trade, transportation, and utilities declined. Colorado’s job growth rate as September 2024 (0.6%) lags slightly behind the national rate (0.8%).

Colorado unemployment rate trending down

(The Center Square) – Colorado’s unemployment rate decreased slightly in September, dropping a tenth of a point from August to 4.1%.

Released last week, these numbers are the first look at unemployment numbers in Colorado since the federal government shutdown delayed the regular monthly reports from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Recommended Stories

Tennessee’s economy growing, but affordability becoming a major issue

Chile trio charged in string of Wisconsin home burglaries

Wright seeks ‘broad-based’ reform of 55-year-old environmental law to speed permitting

The shutdown lasted from Oct. 1 to Nov. 12, and, while the government is retroactively releasing the September unemployment numbers, it will skip the October report.
