Apple took down ICEBlock in October following a Department of Justice (DOJ) request, citing concerns that the app endangered officer safety. Attorney General Pam Bondi publicly stated that the app put ICE agents at risk simply for performing their duties.<\/p>\n<p>ICEBlock&#8217;s founder, Joshua Aaron, along with the app&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/conservative-groups-demand-congress-protect-intellectual-property-from-patent-abuse-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Conservative groups demand Congress protect intellectual property from patent abuse - ...\">intellectual property owner<\/a>, filed the lawsuit claiming the government officials violated their constitutional rights by pressuring Apple to remove the app, which they argue suppresses free speech. The plaintiffs also accuse officials of launching a retaliation campaign involving false claims against Aaron and CNN, which had featured the app.<\/p>\n<p>Immigration enforcement officials criticize the app for hampering enforcement efforts and endangering ICE officers,especially after violent incidents like a shooting at a Texas ICE facility. Department of Homeland Security officials defended the removal, emphasizing the rise in threats and assaults against law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit challenges the government&#8217;s &#8220;unlawful threats&#8221; to investigate Aaron criminally and seeks to protect the right to share information about public law enforcement activities. In America, government officials cannot suppress <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/free-speech\/\">free speech<\/a> by pressuring private companies to do it for them,&rdquo; Noam Biale, attorney for the plaintiffs, said in a statement to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>ICEBlock gained traction in the United States after <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/cnn\/\">CNN<\/a> released a segment covering the app. Border Czar <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tom-homan\/\">Tom Homan<\/a>, a defendant in the lawsuit, was <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/3458491\/tom-homan-ice-tracking-app-doj-investigation\/\">outraged at CNN&rsquo;s decision<\/a> to spotlight the app and called for a DOJ investigation into the matter.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/section\/policy\/immigration\/\">Immigration<\/a> enforcement officials have criticized the app for impeding immigration enforcement and for being a danger to ICE officers, particularly in light of the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3822009\/rounds-dallas-shooting-suspect-anti-ice-messaging-fbi\/\">Texas ICE facility shooting<\/a>, which the FBI deemed an act of &ldquo;targeted violence&rdquo; against immigration enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;ICE tracking apps put the lives of the men and women of law enforcement in danger as they go after terrorists, vicious gangs and violent criminal rings. Our law officers are facing more than a 1150% increase in assaults against them and an 8000% increase in death threats,&rdquo; <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/department-of-homeland-security\/\">Department of Homeland Security<\/a> assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement to the<em> Washington Examiner<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;But, of course, the media spins this correct decision for Apple to remove these apps as them caving to pressure instead of preventing further bloodshed and stopping law enforcement from getting killed,&rdquo; McLaughlin said.<\/p>\n<p>The plaintiffs allege the Trump administration officials &ldquo;launched a coordinated campaign of retaliation against Aaron and CNN, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dark-money-mothership-arabella-advisors-distances-from-left-wing-group-demand-justice-amid-scotus-push\/\" title=\"Dark Money Mothership Arabella Advisors Distances From Left-Wing Group Demand Just... Amid SCOTUS Push\">spreading false claims<\/a> about ICEBlock,&rdquo; in the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.dcd.287435\/gov.uscourts.dcd.287435.1.0_3.pdf\">complaint<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The plaintiffs wrote in the complaint that their lawsuit &ldquo;challenges these government officials&rsquo; unconstitutional threats and demands against Apple, which pressured it to remove the ICEBlock app from the App Store.&rdquo; They say it also challenges the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-unhappy-biden-had-a-talking-to-with-top-officials-who-were-pushing-for-a-ukrainian-win\/\" title=\"REPORT: Unh...y Biden Had A Talking To With Top Officials Who Were Pushing For A Ukrainian Win\">named administration officials<\/a> for what the plaintiffs called their &ldquo;unlawful threats&rdquo; to &ldquo;criminally investigate and prosecute Aaron for his role in developing ICEBlock.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;These threats were intended and designed to chill Aaron and others from engaging in expressive activity&mdash;specifically, sharing information about <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >publicly observable law-enforcement actions&#038;mdash<\/a>;and to deter technology companies and journalistic institutions from supporting, amplifying, or facilitating such speech,&rdquo; the complaint reads.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3459355\/what-to-know-about-the-ice-tracking-app\/\">WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE ICE TRACKING APP<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The complaint specifically names Bondi, Homan, DHS Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kristi-noem\/\">Kristi Noem<\/a>, acting ICE director Todd Lyons, and 10 John Doe federal officials as defendants. The case, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, has been assigned to Federal Judge Dabney L.
