Eric swalwell leading the Democratic field in California&#8217;s 2026 governor&#8217;s race, narrowly ahead of former Rep. Katie Porter. Swalwell has <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >gained 12% voter support compared<\/a> to Porter&#8217;s 11%,marking a shift as August when Porter was leading her closest Democratic rival by a significant margin. Katie Porter (D-CA), according to a poll released Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Swalwell joined a crowded field of Democratic candidates <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/3887872\/eric-swalwell-california-governor-race\/\">vying to succeed <\/a>Gov. The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3777214\/katie-porter-california-governor-race-poll\/\">same polling <\/a>from the <em>Politico<\/em>-Citrin Center-Possibility Lab showed Porter held a 6% lead over Bianco.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The dynamic of the race began to shift against Porter&rsquo;s favor most noticeably over the fall, when she encountered <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/state\/3843630\/katie-porter-california-governor-race-cbs-interview\/\">significant struggles<\/a> with likeability factors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Viral footage of Porter becoming visibly irritated at follow-up questions, unflattering reports of her management style behind the scenes, and a widely publicized video of her berating a staffer undermined her campaign&rsquo;s footing, leading the gubernatorial contender to issue an apology.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I want people to know that I understand that what I did was not good,&rdquo; Porter said during remarks in October at the UC Student and Policy Center.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/education\/3498556\/newsom-harvard-president-alan-garber-resign\/\"><strong>NEWSOM CALLS FOR HARVARD PRESIDENT ALAN GARBER TO RESIGN OVER ANTISEMITISM DEAL WITH TRUMP ADMIN<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I&rsquo;m not going to mince words about it, but I also want people to understand that I am in this fight because I am not going to back down and give one inch when people are hurting Californians,&rdquo; she added. &ldquo;And both of those things can be true at the same time.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Emerson College poll was conducted Dec. 1-2 with a sample size of 1,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ga-secretary-of-state-says-democrats-are-criticizing-voting-law-in-order-to-take-over-federal-elections\/\" title=\"GA Secretary Of State Says ...
