The law allows private citizens to sue out-of-state prescribers, manufacturers, and distributors of abortion pills for at least $100,000 per violation, using a legal enforcement model similar to Texas&#8217;s 2021 heartbeat law.Critics, including abortion advocates and some media outlets, have described the law as a &#8220;bounty hunter&#8221; scheme intended to intimidate. Simultaneously occurring, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >groups facilitating mail-order abortion pills<\/a> have vowed to continue their activities despite legal risks.The law comes amid reports of serious adverse effects from mifepristone use, abuse, coercion, and complications, with studies indicating many abortions are unwanted or coerced. Public opinion reportedly favors tighter FDA regulation of abortion drugs, yet recent federal actions include approving a generic version of mifepristone. Texas officials, including Attorney General Ken Paxton, have pursued legal actions against abortion pill providers, but efforts are hindered by protections in Democratic states aimed at shielding abortion rights.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A new law designed to combat Democrat laws shielding abortion drug traffickers who take advantage of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration&rsquo;s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/10\/28\/lax-abortion-pill-rules-make-already-vulnerable-women-more-susceptible-to-harm-and-abuse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">radically expanded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/buttigieg-admits-abortion-frees-up-men-to-be-sexual-degenerates\/\" title=\"Buttigieg Admits Abortion Frees Up Men To Be Sexual Degenerates\">mail-order mifepristone<\/a> allowances<\/a> went into effect on Thursday in Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Lone Star legislators passed <a href=\"https:\/\/capitol.texas.gov\/tlodocs\/892\/billtext\/pdf\/HB00007F.pdf#navpanes=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">House Bill 7<\/a> in September to create a punishment mechanism for illegal interstate abortion pill transactions and the dangerous and deadly consequences they hold for women and their unborn children.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new statute, private citizens are permitted to sue out-of-state mifepristone prescribers, manufacturers, and distributors, such as pharmacies, for &ldquo;an amount of not less than $100,000&rdquo; for each violation of the state&rsquo;s ban on abortion pills. Enforcement is modeled after Texas&rsquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/30\/thanks-to-texas-heartbeat-law-10000-babies-escaped-abortion-study\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">successful<\/a> 2021 heartbeat bill, which virtually eliminated abortion in the state by granting anyone outside of the government to bring a civil action against anyone who performs or <a href=\"https:\/\/guides.sll.texas.gov\/abortion-laws\/history-of-abortion-laws\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">aids and abets<\/a> ending a life in the womb.<\/p>\n<p>Abortion activists have already dubbed the law a <a href=\"https:\/\/reproductiverights.org\/news\/four-things-hb7-texas-new-abortion-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&ldquo;dangerous&rdquo; &ldquo;attack&rdquo; fueled by &ldquo;fearmongering and intimidation.&rdquo;<\/a> Media such as the Houston Chronicle and The Guardian joined the dogpile with articles framing the law as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/politics\/texas\/article\/abortion-pills-bounty-hunter-law-21219300.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&ldquo;bounty hunter&rdquo;<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/audio\/2025\/dec\/04\/texas-abortion-law-bounty-hunters-lawsuits-podcast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">scheme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenation.com\/article\/society\/telehealth-abortion-shield-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&ldquo;Abortion pill underground&rdquo;<\/a> coordinators, such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridgereproductivehealthconsultants.org\/map\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Massachusetts Medication&nbsp;Abortion&nbsp;Access Project (MAP),<\/a> have also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/dec\/04\/texas-law-abortion-pill-access-lawsuit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">committed in print<\/a> and online to continue their drug smuggling schemes regardless of potential consequences.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We can send packages to any address in the US,&rdquo; MAP&rsquo;s website brags. <\/p>\n<p>Already, countless babies have died due to the prevalence of mail-order mifepristone. As demonstrated in several recent lawsuits, many women&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/08\/11\/man-allegedly-murdered-his-unborn-baby-by-spiking-her-moms-hot-cocoa-with-abortion-drug\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">have<\/a> also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/06\/11\/tx-man-arrested-after-allegedly-poisoning-his-girlfriend-murdering-his-child-with-abortion-drug\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suffered<\/a> abuse, abortion pill poisonings, and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/10\/30\/woman-coerced-into-abortion-asks-fda-to-stop-shielding-abusers-and-their-drug-dealers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">coerced abortions<\/a> due to mifepristone prescribers and distributors&rsquo; flouting of Texas&rsquo; and other pro-life states&rsquo; abortion pill bans. <\/p>\n<p>Approximately <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/28\/study-rate-of-serious-or-life-threatening-complications-after-abortion-pill-is-22-times-higher-than-fda-claims\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">10 percent of women<\/a>&nbsp;who ingest mifepristone reportedly suffer a serious adverse event such as hemorrhage or infection. Similarly,&nbsp;a majority of abortions, nearly 70 percent,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/hidden-epidemic-nearly-70-of-abortions-are-coerced-unwanted-or-inconsistent-with-womens-preferences\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">are believed to be unwanted, coerced, or inconsistent<\/a>&nbsp;with the mother&rsquo;s values and desires.<\/p>\n<p>Polling <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/10\/28\/trumps-trusted-pollster-even-pro-aborts-say-mifepristone-is-dangerous-and-needs-fda-regulation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suggests<\/a> a majority of likely voters want the FDA to protect women from the drug responsible for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/article\/2022\/02\/medication-abortion-now-accounts-more-half-all-us-abortions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more than half of U.S. abortions<\/a>. Leaders of both the Department of Health and Human Services and the FDA have repeatedly <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/10\/20\/the-fda-has-a-chemical-abortion-pill-problem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pledged to review<\/a> the safety of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/inaction-on-abortion-pill-puts-women-at-risk-of-harm-abuse\/\" title=\"Inaction On ... Puts ... At Risk Of Harm, ...\">popular abortion drug combination<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Yet they did not respond to The Federalist&rsquo;s questions about who is conducting the review and how long it is expected to take. Instead, the only mifepristone-related activity from HHS and the FDA in recent weeks involved&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/10\/02\/after-promising-review-of-deadly-abortion-pill-fda-greenlights-a-copycat-version\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">greenlighting<\/a>&nbsp;a generic version of the abortion pill for sale.<\/p>\n<p>For now, states such as Texas are left to their own devices for preventing further harm. Already, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/08\/21\/paxton-to-abortion-pill-black-market-texas-will-not-tolerate-illegal-trafficking-of-fatal-drugs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton<\/a> has tried to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/12\/16\/republicans-serious-about-protecting-life-should-follow-texas-in-prosecuting-abortion-pill-outlaws\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sue and fine<\/a> prescribers who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ny-ag-tries-to-stop-tx-from-punishing-abortion-drug-traffickers\/\" title=\"NY AG Tries To Stop TX From Punishing Abortion Drug Traffickers\">illegally mail abortion pills<\/a> to women in his state.
