She&rsquo;s trying to sell books. Period.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Shapiro&rsquo;s comments were a real-time reaction to learning about some of the more specific details in Harris&rsquo;s book. The interview was conducted before the book came out, when some journalists had prior access.<\/p>\n<p>Shapiro made it to the late stages of Harris&rsquo;s selection for her running mate last year. The then-vice president ultimately decided instead to select Gov. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tim-walz\/\">Tim Walz<\/a> (D-MN), fueling speculation that there was some bad blood between her and the Pennsylvania governor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While Shapiro publicly stood by Harris in the final days of her campaign, he denounced the former vice president&rsquo;s account of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-cronys-presidential-appointment-could-pose-conflict-of-interest\/\" title=\"Biden Crony\u2019s Presidential Appointment Could Pose Conflict of Interest\">running mate selection process<\/a>, as detailed in her book.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>107 Days <\/em>painted a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/daily-memo\/3821112\/in-harris-book-why-the-petty-slurs-and-slights\/\">broadly unflattering portrait <\/a>of Shapiro, who is considered one of the most popular governors in the United States.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Harris wrote that during his vice presidential interviews, she felt Shapiro was more concerned with defining his role in the administration than helping her win, and suggested he attempted to monopolize the conversation. She recounted Shapiro saying he wanted to be present &ldquo;for every decision&rdquo; she made and claimed he asked an aide about whether the Smithsonian might work with him to loan Pennsylvania art for the house.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;She wrote that in her book?&rdquo; Shapiro asked <em>Atlantic <\/em>reporter Tim Alberta.&nbsp; &ldquo;That&rsquo;s complete bulls***. I can tell you that her accounts are just blatant lies.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Shapiro, who <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3220326\/five-democrats-prime-position-face-party-2028\/\">is viewed<\/a> as one of Democrats&rsquo; leading presidential contenders in 2028, is set to release his own memoir in January, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/entertainment\/3857992\/josh-shapiro-memoir-release-in-january\/\">detailing in part<\/a> his experience being considered as Harris&rsquo; running mate in the 2024 election.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Some analysts said Shapiro seemed like the strongest contender of the candidates Harris interviewed for the role. Republican political strategists have <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3175389\/walz-debate-prompts-questions-harris-snub-shapiro-vp\/\">argued<\/a> that picking Walz could be the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3213172\/josh-shapiro-says-harris-partner-white-house-plea-pennsylvania-voters\/\">greatest mistake<\/a> of the Harris campaign, contending that Shapiro is one of the most talented Democratic figures in contemporary politics.&nbsp;Polls <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3855876\/shapiro-warned-biden-struggling-2024-campaign-before-dropped-out\/\">at the time <\/a>indicated that she may have won Pennsylvania, a crucial battleground state, had she chosen Shapiro.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I&rsquo;m not going to get into my private discussions with the vice president,&rdquo; Shapiro <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/3116052\/shapiro-speaks-governor-gives-first-big-interview-since-being-harris-vice-president-runner-up\/\">told the <\/a><em>Washington Examiner<\/em> last year in comments weighing in on Harris&rsquo;s decision to pick Walz. &ldquo;What I will say is, I said for two weeks, she had a deeply personal decision to make about who she wanted to be a running mate.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The authors of the book <em>2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America<\/em>, which was released <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3464317\/book-why-kamala-harris-did-not-pick-josh-shapiro\/\">over the summer<\/a>, claimed Harris didn&rsquo;t pick Shapiro because they were too similar, had competing political ambitions, and lacked chemistry.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;Unlike her meetings with Walz and Sen.
