Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy had announced the bonus as a reward for those who showed up every day despite the shutdown and lack of pay. However, Duckworth argued in a letter to Duffy that excluding 96% of FAA staff who occasionally called out was unfair, divisive, and disrespectful. She also warned that the bonus policy might create a hazardous incentive for employees to come to work sick, perhaps compromising safety, since maintaining health is critical in such high-stress jobs. But he has argued that those who held a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >perfect attendance record<\/a> warranted an additional reward.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I think in the future, a lot of controllers would think, &lsquo;Hey, there could be a reward when I show up, and I&rsquo;m going to do all I can to be there every single day to serve the American people. These dedicated professionals must be at their best when on the job, but your policy encourages Air Traffic Controllers and Technicians to show up regardless of their health.
