Though, the GOP is focusing its efforts on the New York state governorship, a position with higher authority than the mayor. Representative Elise Stefanik, a prominent Republican, is emerging as the leading GOP candidate to challenge incumbent Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul, who supported Mamdani&#8217;s policies despite their potential costs. Stefanik has gained meaningful backing from Republican leaders and conservative Party organizations across the state, securing over 75% of the party&#8217;s weighted vote in the primary, making her the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/president-trump-to-headline-n-y-gop-event-on-august-5\/\" title=\"President Trump to headline N.Y. ... event on August 5\">presumptive nominee<\/a>. While Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman remains a contender, his support is mainly regional, and he faces an uphill battle to gather enough signatures to qualify for the primary ballot. Elise Stefanik.<\/p>\n<p>The 41-year-old Stefanik had already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gop-rep-elise-stefanik-launches-challenge-worst-governor-america-kathy-hochul-polling-shows-upset-potential\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">long been linked<\/a> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ga-republicans-launch-stop-stacey-effort-ahead-of-possible-abrams-2022-announcement\/\" title=\"GA ... Launch \u2018Stop Stacey\u2019 Effort Ahead Of Possible Abrams 2022 Announcement\">gubernatorial race<\/a> in New York, which isn&rsquo;t exactly unheard of for a New York lawmaker.<\/p>\n<p>But now? Stefanik has far more than just a desire. She appears to have tangible, meaningful support, as well.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/exclusive-stefanik-steamrolls-top-conservative-opponent-gop-leaders-hand-commanding-edge-ny-primary?dicbo=v2-uGYMkKe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>, Stefanik &ldquo;has opened a commanding lead in the New York Republican primary for governor, locking down endorsements from GOP county chairs, state lawmaker, and Conservative Party leaders across the state, a consolidation of support that party officials say leaves Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman with virtually no path to the nomination.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Fox notes that Stefanik has already garnered support of over 75 percent of the New York Republican Party&rsquo;s weighted vote.<\/p>\n<p>The outlet adds that Stefanik has &ldquo;an overwhelming advantage that makes her the presumptive nominee and would require any rival to petition his or her way onto the ballot.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>According to New York by-laws, for Blakeman or any other presumptive GOP contender to get on the ballot, they would need to garner at least 15,000 signatures from registered Republicans in the state.<\/p>\n<p>GOP insiders have described Stefanik&rsquo;s early advantage as &ldquo;unprecedented,&rdquo; as she appears poised to run away with the GOP primary before it even begins.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;According to two independent polls, Elise is the strongest candidate against Hochul and has the highest name ID and most favorable polling,&rdquo; Stefanik representative Bernadette Breslin told Fox.<\/p>\n<p>Breslin also added: &ldquo;Her strong support across the state only continues to grow as she earns more endorsements from prominent GOP leaders, including 40 out of New York&rsquo;s 45 Conservative Party organizations.
