Onyl 40% of these women expressed a definite or probable desire to have children, which is significantly lower than the 50% reported among men. Additionally, 44% of women probably or definitely do not want children, compared to 33% of men. When asked about birth rates, 35% of men said there are too few babies born in the U.S., whereas only 18% of women agreed. The U.S. fertility rate hit a record low of 1.6 live births per woman last year,below the replacement rate of 2.1, raising concerns among experts about future labor shortages, social safety net strain, and economic slowdown. Other surveys also indicate declining interest among young women in marriage and family, with a notable drop over 30 years in the number of teenage girls who expect to marry, while boys&#8217; attitudes remain relatively stable. only 40 percent of women under 50 said &ldquo;definitely&rdquo; or &ldquo;probably.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>That was substantially lower than the 50 percent of men who want children.<\/p>\n<p>Another 44 percent of women said they &ldquo;probably&rdquo; \t\t\t\t}); \t\t\t} \t\t<\/script> <\/p>\n<p>When asked whether there are &ldquo;too many&rdquo; or &ldquo;too few&rdquo; babies being born in the United States, men were much more likely than women to say &ldquo;too few.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Some 35 percent of men believe that too few babies are born today, while only 18 percent of women agreed.<\/p>\n<p>The American Family Survey analysis nevertheless noted that the fertility rate in the United States reached a record low of 1.6 live births last year, which is well below the replacement rate of 2.1 live births.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;There is broad consensus among demographers and public health experts that the situation is concerning, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >posing long-term risks including labor shortages<\/a>, strain on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/they-dont-buy-into-that-at-all-are-far-left-policies-behind-hispanic-voters-rightward-shift\/\" title=\"\u2018They Don\u2019t Buy Into That At All\u2019: Are Far-Left Policies Behind Hispanic Voters\u2019 Rightward Shift?\">social safety nets<\/a>, and economic slowdown,&rdquo; the analysis said.<\/p>\n<p>The survey results come as other recent polls show fewer women in the United States valuing marriage, family, and children.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2025\/11\/14\/12th-grade-girls-are-less-likely-than-boys-to-say-they-want-to-get-married-someday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">survey<\/a> from Pew Research found that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/shocking-survey-teenage-girls-now-less-likely-to-want-marriage-than-teenage-boys\/\" title=\"Shocking ...: ... Now Less Likely to Want Marriage Than Teenage Boys\">typical 12th-grade girl<\/a> is less likely to want to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/shocking-survey-teenage-girls-now-less-likely-want-marriage-teenage-boys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">married<\/a> one day than the typical 12th-grade boy.<\/p>\n<p>In 1993, 76 percent of boys said they are &ldquo;most likely to choose to get married in the long run,&rdquo; and by 2023, the figure was relatively unchanged at 74 percent.<\/p>\n<p>For girls, however, the number declined drastically from 83 percent in 1993 to 61 percent in 2023, meaning that young females have driven almost the entire negative generational shift in attitudes toward marriage.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The  of boys saying this is virtually unchanged over the 30-year period.
