Mark Green&rsquo;s abrupt resignation following the passage of the &ldquo;Big Beautiful Bill&rdquo; in July.<\/p>\n<p>Green served as chairman of the influential Homeland Security Committee before stepping down for an undisclosed opportunity in the private sector.<\/p>\n<p>The Dec. 2 race has huge implications for Republicans&rsquo; razor-thin majority, which could drop to a one-seat advantage if Behn were to overperform and pull off an upset victory.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans are also seeking to halt Democrats&rsquo; recent electoral <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/left-celebrated-predictable-2025-victories-dem-rep-made-2026-move-indicates-party-will-fare-midterms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">momentum<\/a> after sweeping key races during the Nov. 4 elections. The Democratic candidates sought to frame their victories as a referendum on voters&rsquo; discontent with the high cost of living and Behn appears to be using a similar playbook.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Angry about high grocery prices? Worried about health care costs? Feeling burned by tariffs? MAGA Inc., an outside super PAC affiliated with Trump, has also spent money to shore up support for Van Epps, marking the group&rsquo;s first contribution of the 2026 cycle.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I am asking all America First Patriots in Tennessee&rsquo;s 7th Congressional District, who haven&rsquo;t voted yet, to please GET OUT AND VOTE for MAGA Warrior Matt Van Epps, tomorrow, November 26th, the last day to vote early in person,&rdquo; Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/115612873614937945\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The conservative Club for Growth has also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/deep-pocketed-conservative-group-once-odds-trump-now-all-in-help-him-win\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dumped<\/a> resources into the race to fend off a Democratic upset.<\/p>\n<p>Van Epps, who was Green&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/clarksvillenow.com\/local\/mark-green-endorses-matt-van-epps-for-his-seat-in-congress-i-know-he-will-stand-up-for-tennessee-families\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hand-picked<\/a> successor, is endorsed by Trump and previously served as a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >state commissioner<\/a>.
