Jones pleaded guilty last year.<\/p>\n<p>The penalty includes five life sentences, one each for the killings of Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr. and D&rsquo;Sean Perry, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/soros-prosecutor-freed-violent-offender-now-charged-with-killing-homeless-woman\/\" title=\"Soros Prosecutor Freed Violent Offender Now Charged With Killing Homeless Woman\">aggravated malicious wounding<\/a> of Michael Hollins and Marlee Morgan, <a href=\"https:\/\/cvillerightnow.com\/news\/208802-judge-gives-uva-shooter-five-life-sentences\/\">Cville Right Now reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities said Jones opened fire aboard a charter bus as he and other students arrived back on campus after seeing a play and having dinner together in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/3-killed-university-virginia-shooting-campus-locked-police-hunt-former-football-player\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shooting<\/a> erupted near a parking garage and prompted a 12-hour lockdown of the Charlottesville campus until the suspect was captured. The sentence was not &ldquo;vindictive&rdquo; but rather based on a logical analysis, said Higgins, who is an Albemarle County Circuit Court judge.<\/p>\n<p>Jones had &ldquo;distortions in his perception&rdquo; or reality, but understood his actions, she said, noting that he texted people before the shooting that he would either &ldquo;go to hell or spend 100-plus years in jail.&rdquo; Jones discarded clothing and the gun afterward and lied to police he ran into five minutes later, the judge said.<\/p>\n<p>Within days of the shooting, university leaders <a href=\"https:\/\/files.constantcontact.com\/d3e83e11901\/3661950d-9b8c-49ed-8c61-e2c5cfa9efc5.pdf?rdr=true\">asked for an outside review<\/a> to investigate the school&rsquo;s safety policies and procedures, its response to the violence, and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-trumps-lawyers-offer-former-presidents-answer-to-impeachment-article-on-incitement-of-insurrection\/\" title=\"BREAKING: Trump\u2019s Lawyers Offer Former President\u2019s Answer To Impeachment Article On Incitement Of Insurrection\">prior efforts<\/a> to assess the potential threat of the student charged. School officials acknowledged Jones previously was on the radar of the university&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/74-of-professors-targeted-as-part-of-cancel-culture-end-up-punished-report-finds\/\" title=\"74% Of Professors Targeted As Part Of \u2018Cancel Culture\u2019 End Up Punished, Report Finds\">threat assessment team<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The university last year agreed to pay $9 million in a settlement with victims and their families. Their attorney said the university should have removed Jones from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/school-official-searched-6-year-old-teachers-shooting-missed-pistol-one-problem-nobodys-addressing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">campus<\/a> before the attack because he <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >displayed multiple red flags<\/a> through erratic and unstable behavior.<\/p>\n<p>Jones tearfully addressed the court for 15 minutes during his sentencing hearing, apologizing for his actions and for the hurt he caused &ldquo;everyone on that bus.&rdquo; Some victims&rsquo; family members got up and walked out as he spoke.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I&rsquo;m so sorry,&rdquo; Jones said. &ldquo;I caused so much pain.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the families, Jones said: &ldquo;I didn&rsquo;t know your sons. I didn&rsquo;t know your boys. And I wish I did.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Michael Hollins, a football player who was wounded and survived, told reporters after the sentencing that justice was served &ldquo;for the most part.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Even though that no amount of time on this earth in jail will repay or get those lives back, just a little bit of peace knowing that the man that committed those crimes won&rsquo;t be hurting anyone else,&rdquo; Hollins said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-style: italic;\">The Western Journal has not reviewed this Associated Press story prior to publication.
