AI usage accounted for 80%-90% of the tactical operations conducted, leaving human operators with 10-20% of the remaining work.<\/p>\n<p>The hacking operation targeted about 30 unnamed entities, some of which were successfully breached. Anthropic says the initial targets included tech companies, financial institutions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-files-first-ever-charges-against-chinese-fentanyl-manufacturers\/\" title=\"US charges Chinese fentanyl makers for the first time.\">chemical manufacturing companies<\/a>, and government agencies in multiple countries.<\/p>\n<p>After detecting the operation in mid-September and conducting its own assessment, Anthropic concluded hackers affiliated with the People&rsquo;s Republic of China exploited the company&rsquo;s Claude Code to commit the cyberattack.<\/p>\n<p>Claude is an &ldquo;agentic&rdquo; AI tool, meaning it can operate autonomously without as much human input required by generative AI systems.<\/p>\n<p>Congress is concerned about what the reported incident means for <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/national-security\/\">national security<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This incident is consequential for U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/miles-anonymous-taylor-accidentally-exposes-the-fraudulence-of-the-mainstream-media\/\" title=\"Miles &#039;Anonymous&#039; Taylor Accidentally Exposes the Fraudulence of the M...nstream Media\">homeland security<\/a> because it demonstrates what a capable and well<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >-resourced state-sponsored cyber actor<\/a>, such as those linked to the PRC, can now accomplish using commercially available U.S. AI systems, even when providers maintain strong safeguards and respond rapidly to signs of misuse,&rdquo; Garbarino <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/homeland.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2025-11-26-CHS-to-Anthropic-re-Request-to-Testify.pdf\">wrote in a Wednesday letter<\/a> to Amodei.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/technology\/3887717\/chinese-hackers-used-american-ai-technology-cybercrimes-anthropic\/\">STATE-SPONSORED CHINESE HACKERS USED AMERICAN AI TECHNOLOGY TO CARRY OUT CYBERCRIMES: ANTHROPIC<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Each letter sent to the three executives were co-signed by Reps.
