He has not yet announced that he plans on running, but told <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/local\/washington-dc\/2025\/10\/24\/kenyan-mcduffie-muriel-bowser-mayor\"><em>Axios D.C.<\/em> <\/a>in late October that he is &ldquo;giving it serious consideration.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The outreach and encouragement I&rsquo;ve received so far has been nothing short of humbling, and it reinforces the importance of this moment for the District. I do not have a decision to announce today, but when the time is right, I will share my plans for 2026 with you,&rdquo; McDuffie told Axios in late October.<\/p>\n<p>McDuffie thanked Bowser in a statement following her resignation, saying she &ldquo;never took her eye off the ball when it came to making critical investments in housing, education, public safety, and economic development.&rdquo; He did not give any indication of his own aspirations, but said Bowser &ldquo;set the stage for the work that must come next.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;She led with determination and a genuine love for the people of DC&mdash;especially during some of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-court-gives-cities-more-power-to-ban-homeless-camps-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Supreme Court gives cities more power to ban homeless camps ... ... Examiner\">city&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s most challenging times. Her service has strengthened DC and set the stage for the work that must come next,&rdquo; McDuffie wrote <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/kenyanmcduffie\/status\/1993474393654411775?s=20\">on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>D.C. Councilmember Janeese Lewis George is a progressive, self-described democratic socialist, who has clashed with the more centrist Bowser over her approaches to issues like crime and President Donald Trump&rsquo;s federalization of D.C.
