Senators Sheldon Whitehouse, Richard Blumenthal, and Adam Schiff filed a Freedom of Information act request seeking a legal opinion Bondi allegedly issued, which advised President Trump that accepting the $400 million aircraft was legally permissible. Trump said it would be <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3398308\/trump-redo-qatar-plane-air-force-one-boeing\/\">converted for use <\/a>as the new Air Force One, as Boeing&rsquo;s work on building an aircraft to replace the dated plane the president uses faced costly delays.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats swiftly questioned the gift&rsquo;s legality, even as the Justice Department argued it did not constitute bribery.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Justice Department has already concluded that accepting the jet would not violate the Constitution&rsquo;s prohibition of any U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >government official accepting gifts<\/a> from any King, Prince or foreign State,&rdquo;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3407808\/trump-qatar-jet-new-air-force-one\/\"> according to <\/a>reports in May, because &ldquo;the gift is not conditioned on any official act, [thus] it does not constitute bribery.&rdquo; The DOJ additionally argued that since Qatar technically gave the plane to the U.S. Air Force and it will eventually be given to the Trump Presidential Library Foundation, the $400 million gift was &ldquo;legally permissible.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3861716\/middle-eastern-nations-lobbied-congress-to-shape-defense-bill-won-concessions\/\"><strong>MIDDLE EASTERN NATIONS LOBBIED CONGRESS TO SHAPE DEFENSE BILL, WON CONCESSIONS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration has <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/defense\/3805248\/trump-meet-qatar-israel-strike-hamas\/\">worked closely <\/a>with Qatar throughout the past year to help seal a peace deal between Israel and Hamas, which the White House hopes will stabilize the broader Middle East and promote democracy in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Qatar holds deep ties to Hamas, among other terrorist groups.
