You have another campaign getting denounced by national Republicans for blaming Trump conservatives on the shutdown. And then you have a third campaign who&rsquo;s just been head down, raising money, talking to voters.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Dooley team pushed back on the idea that the infighting has fundamentally reshaped the race. Ford O&rsquo;Connell, a GOP strategist based in Florida, said Trump world is assessing which candidate is best positioned to unseat Ossoff. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Knocking off one of the administration&rsquo;s top targets, they&rsquo;re going to take their time to determine who best can do that,&rdquo; O&rsquo;Connell said.<\/p>\n<p>A Georgia GOP operative with Senate-race experience argued that Republicans can&rsquo;t afford to let the primary drift. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I get the argument that primaries can be healthy,&rdquo; the operative said. &ldquo;But the longer this goes on, the more baggage everybody picks up. If Trump wants the strongest nominee against Ossoff, he probably needs to move sooner rather than later.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>National Republicans privately concede the race has turned into exactly the scenario they hoped to avoid once Kemp declined to run. Yet GOP leadership is making it clear they won&rsquo;t intervene. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) told <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/punchbowl.news\/article\/campaigns\/ga-messy-primary\/\">Punchbowl News<\/a> this week that &ldquo;until we have a nominee, we&rsquo;re not able to engage fully in that race,&rdquo; effectively leaving the fight to continue through the May 2026 primary. &ldquo;Primaries tend to get competitive,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;But we still think in Georgia, once the dust settles there and the smoke clears, that that&rsquo;s gonna be a really good opportunity for us.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Recent polling gives a clearer snapshot of the race&rsquo;s instability. According to<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/politics\/2025\/10\/senate-poll-ossoff-riding-high-in-georgia-maga-firebrand-leads-gop-field\/\"> the Atlanta Journal&#8209;Constitution survey <\/a>conducted in mid October, Collins leads with 30%, Carter posts 20%, and Dooley registers 12%, while 38% of likely Republican primary voters remain undecided.<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolling.com\/elections\/senate\/2026\/georgia?utm_source=chatgpt.com\"> <\/a>Meanwhile, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolling.com\/elections\/senate\/2026\/georgia\">the RealClearPolitics average <\/a>shows Collins at 28.3%, Carter at 18.7%, and Dooley at 12.0%, placing Collins ahead by about 9.6 points.<\/p>\n<p>Fundraising reflects a competitive but uneven financial picture. Affordability is the top issue, and the commission touches the cost of everything.
