Slotkin initially advocated that service members reject unlawful commands but later said she did not believe Trump had issued any illegal military orders, though she mentioned some legal controversies related to Caribbean strikes and Venezuela. Vance reposted her remark and contended that if the president had not issued illegal orders, then Congress members telling the military to disobey the president is itself illegal.
