He joined the University of Arizona in 2017 after previously working as a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology since 1955, <a href=\"https:\/\/linguistics.arizona.edu\/person\/noam-chomsky\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to the university&rsquo;s website.<\/p>\n<p>In June 2023, Chomsky suffered a &ldquo;massive&rdquo; stroke and was recovering in a hospital in his wife&rsquo;s native country of Brazil as of June 2024, Time <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/6987747\/noam-chomsky-stroke-brazil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Epstein had set up several meetings with Chomsky in 2015 and 2016, when he was still working as professor at MIT, The Wall Street Journal first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/us-news\/jeffrey-epstein-calendar-cia-director-goldman-sachs-noam-chomsky-c9f6a3ff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a> in April 2023. When asked by the outlet about his relationship with Epstein, Chomsky responded in an : &ldquo;First response is that it is none of your business. Or anyone&rsquo;s. Second is that I knew him and we met occasionally.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders notably wrote in a June 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BernieSanders\/status\/1802016296923476131?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">post<\/a> to X that he believes Chomsky is &ldquo;one of the most important and ground-breaking intellectuals of the last century.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;His insights have enabled millions of people to better understand the oligarchic world in which we live,&rdquo; Sanders added.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said during a November 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=b6M9VxHLqV8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">interview<\/a> alongside Chomsky on &ldquo;The Laura Flanders Show&rdquo; that it was &ldquo;such an honor and a culminating moment to be able to engage&rdquo; with him.<\/p>\n<p>Chomsky has previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/john-stossel-debunking-3-socialists-myths-leftists-love-peddle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">promoted<\/a> libertarian socialism, <a href=\"https:\/\/socialism.com\/fs-article\/the-contradictions-of-noam-chomsky\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to the Freedom Socialist Party.
