(AP Photo\/David Zalubowski, File)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&ldquo;However, when they grow up in an environment surrounded by adults who champion democratic socialism, it starts to make sense,&rdquo; said Talgo.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/heartland.org\/topics\/emerging-issues-center\/\">Heartland&rsquo;s Glenn C. Haskins Emerging Issues Center<\/a> teamed up with <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/partner_surveys\/democratic_socialism_2028_most_young_voters_say_yes\">Rasmussen Reports<\/a> to poll nearly 1,500 likely voters aged 18 to 39<\/p>\n<p>The group in the poll shared with <em>Washington Secrets<\/em> said they voted for former Vice President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kamala-harris\/\">Kamala Harris<\/a> over President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\">Donald Trump<\/a> by a 45%-39% margin.<\/p>\n<p>They are currently split over Trump&rsquo;s performance. A bare majority, 50%, disapprove of the president, but 48% approve.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if they want a democratic socialist to win the next <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/are-covid-case-surges-more-fake-news\/\" title=\"Are COVID Case Surges More Fake News?\">presidential election<\/a>, over half (51%) said yes. Just 32% rejected the idea, and the rest were unsure.<\/p>\n<p>Such support offers a good base for a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >leftist presidential candidate<\/a> to join the race. Both Ocasio-Cortez and Mamdani will be just old enough to be constitutionally eligible to be elected president.<\/p>\n<p>Every demographic in the survey, except 18- to 39-year-old Republicans and conservatives, said they want a democratic socialist as the next president.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Sen. (AP Photo\/Heather Khalifa)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The survey found that the younger voters were greatly influenced by how their parents and teachers portrayed socialists.<\/p>\n<p>Some 54%, for example, said their parents and guardians talked positively about leftists. Another 52% said their teachers gave off good vibes about socialists. And 53% said the media influenced their thinking with pro-lefty stories.<\/p>\n<p>Add to that how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-says-facebook-isnt-killing-people-days-after-appearing-to-accuse-company-of-doing-just-that\/\" title=\"Biden Says \u2018Facebook Isn\u2019t Killing People\u2019 Days After Appearing To Accuse Company Of Doing Just That\">social media plays<\/a> up socialism and its political heroes, and it&rsquo;s no wonder that they are the future of the Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>Heartland Institute&rsquo;s Talgo said, &ldquo;The rise of social media and soundbite news has only made the situation worse because these superficial sources perpetuate the myth that democratic socialism is vogue, feasible, and morally righteous.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/washington-secrets\">SEE THE LATEST POLITICAL NEWS AND BUZZ FROM WASHINGTON SECRETS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ocasio-Cortez has been rumored to be interested in running for higher office, and many of her supporters hope she bypasses the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/section\/senate\">Senate<\/a> to run for president.
