To execute that strategy in hopes of harming Trump, they proved willing to harm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dems-keep-snap-recipients-without-food-vote-shutdown-14th-time-row\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">low-income Americans<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/senate-democrats-shoot-bill-ensure-troops-paid-government-shutdown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">military service members<\/a> in the process.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, when a few <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/six-democrats-defied-party-end-schumer-shutdown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">moderate Democrats<\/a> finally voted to end the shutdown, Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/major-left-wing-group-begins-working-unseat-dem-lawmakers-shutdown-surrender\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">went apoplectic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hence Democrats&rsquo; disappointment, as reflected in the latest CBS News\/YouGov poll.<\/p>\n<p>Tellingly, 55 percent of Democrat respondents believed that their party&rsquo;s elected representatives compromised too much. Only 17 percent of Republicans said the same about their elected representatives.<\/p>\n<p>Unsurprisingly, therefore, 50 percent of Democrats and 68 percent of Republicans told the pollster that Republicans got more of what they wanted from the shutdown-ending negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, Democrat respondents reported feeling &ldquo;frustrated,&rdquo; &ldquo;dissatisfied,&rdquo; and &ldquo;pessimistic,&rdquo; whereas Republicans most commonly responded that they felt &ldquo;relieved,&rdquo; &ldquo;satisfied,&rdquo; and &ldquo;optimistic.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>With that in mind, it is worth examining the source of Democrats&rsquo; frustration, dissatisfaction, and pessimism.<\/p>\n<p>Schumer led Democrats into a prolonged shutdown with no leverage and therefore no plausible endgame.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, Democrat talking heads tried linking the shutdown to expiring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-david-hogg-meets-match-scott-jennings-schools-truth-obamacare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Obamacare subsidies<\/a>. But that argument rang hollow. After all, were Democrats really willing to impoverish SNAP beneficiaries and military service members simply to negotiate on health care? For how long would they have maintained that stance?<\/p>\n<p>Democrat poll respondents&rsquo; negativity, therefore, stems not from an expectation of victory in the shutdown but from the perceived act of capitulation itself.<\/p>\n<p>Think about it: Nowadays, fewer and fewer Democrats express love for their country. Many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/poll-record-number-young-women-say-done-americans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">openly despise<\/a> the United States. Why, then, would they care about a shutdown that harmed their fellow citizens?<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Democrats more and more have embraced political brinkmanship or worse. Thousands of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/half-us-voters-support-firing-leftists-celebrating-murder-charlie-kirk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">leftist ghouls<\/a> celebrated the Sept. 10 assassination of conservative Christian icon Charlie Kirk.
