A recent poll by Democratic pollster EMILY&#8217;s List shows Platner trailing incumbent Senator Susan collins by a wide margin. The survey revealed that Platner&#8217;s past reddit posts expressing pro-communism views, as well as anti-white and anti-police sentiments, along wiht a Nazi-like tattoo, have severely damaged his campaign. However, when respondents were read quotes from his online posts and given information about his Nazi tattoo, the nine-point gap grew to 19.<\/p>\n<p>Even when respondents were given Platner&rsquo;s lengthy apology, he only closed the 19-point gap by five points. In all three scenarios, Collins remained above 50% in support.<\/p>\n<p>Platner&rsquo;s grassroots campaign was thrown into turmoil last month after <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/mainemorningstar.com\/2025\/10\/17\/unearthed-reddit-comments-present-first-stumble-in-platners-rise\/\">his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-this-average-american-is-voting-for-donald-trump\/\" title=\"Why This Average American Is Voting for Donald Trump\">social media posts<\/a><\/a>, in which he described himself as a &ldquo;communist,&rdquo; castigated rural white Americans, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dem-senate-candidate-who-smeared-white-voters-also-advised-reddit-socialists-on-rifles-to-use-against-fascism\/\" title=\"Dem Senate Candidate Who Smeared White ... Also Advised Reddit Socialists on Rifles to Use Against &#039;Fascism&#039;\">called police officers &#038;ldquo<\/a>;bastards&rdquo; following George Floyd&rsquo;s murder by an officer in 2020 resurfaced. He also bore a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/3858840\/maine-senate-graham-platner-nazi-tattoo\/\">skull-and-crossbones tattoo<\/a> that resembled a Nazi symbol. The tattoo has since been <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/3859770\/maine-senate-candidate-graham-platner-nazi-tattoo-covered\/\">covered up<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While Platner is trying to emphasize his experience as a veteran and oyster farmer from Maine, the damage has already been done one year out from the general election. Multiple staffers working on his campaign <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/3865322\/graham-platner-maine-senate-campaign-manager-resigns\/\">have resigned<\/a> in recent weeks due to the controversies.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the survey results, the left-leaning pollster argues it&rsquo;s difficult for Platner to recover.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The poll&rsquo;s findings are clear,&rdquo; Tiernan Donohue, chief campaigns officer of EMILYs List, said. &ldquo;Maine voters find Graham Platner&rsquo;s comments blaming victims for sexual assault, calling the Mainers he is seeking to represent &lsquo;racist&rsquo; and &lsquo;stupid,&rsquo; and <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >promoting violent political action completely disqualifying<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Platner is challenging Gov. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/janet-mills\/\">Janet Mills<\/a> (D-ME) for the Democratic nomination in the Maine <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/senate\/\">Senate<\/a> race, while Collins is seeking to defend her seat.<\/p>\n<p>Although Collins is ahead of Platner in the polls, Maine voters don&rsquo;t have much of an appetite for her reelection. Democrats lead Republicans by nine points on a generic ballot, and Collins&rsquo;s approval rating is in the negative by 10 points. The senator only received 44% approval, compared to 54% disapproval.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/3862892\/platner-rebuilds-campaign-after-setbacks-blames-party-leadership\/\">PLATNER REBUILDS CAMPAIGN AFTER SETBACKS HE BLAMES ON PARTY LEADERSHIP<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mills was not included in the poll.
