Specifically, the committee is probing the OIG&#8217;s involvement in the 2022 seizure and forensic examination of Republican Rep.Scott Perry&#8217;s cell phone during the Arctic Frost investigation, which later evolved into Special Counsel Jack Smith&#8217;s probe targeting Trump. Reports suggest that the OIG assisted the FBI by using its lab to create a forensic copy of Perry&#8217;s phone, raising concerns about the OIG&#8217;s independence and potential partisan actions.<\/p>\n<p>Further revelations indicate that the FBI, as part of the Arctic Frost investigation, also obtained phone records of eight Republican senators and a House member, accessing data about calls but not their content. Additionally,subpoenas were issued for the financial and communication records of various conservative individuals and organizations,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ga-grand-jury-recommended-charges-against-lindsey-graham-former-gop-sens-report-shows\/\" title=\"Grand Jury Recommends Charges Against Lindsey Graham and Former GOP Senators\">including prominent republicans<\/a> and groups like the Republican National Committee.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Jordan has requested all communications and documents related to these activities from the DOJ, FBI, and OIG, and has demanded a briefing on the OIG&#8217;s role by November 26. This <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >inquiry highlights ongoing controversies<\/a> over potential politically motivated investigations conducted during the Biden administration.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The House Judiciary Committee is probing the Justice Department (DOJ) Office of Inspector General&rsquo;s (OIG) alleged involvement in the agency&rsquo;s Biden-era lawfare against Donald Trump, The Federalist has learned. <\/p>\n<p>In a Tuesday letter obtained by The Federalist, Committee Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, requested that Acting DOJ IG Don Richard Berthiaume, Jr. provide lawmakers with records related to the OIG&rsquo;s role in seizing Rep. Scott Perry&rsquo;s cell phone in 2022. As noted by Jordan and previously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/02\/28\/obama-judge-unleashes-fbi-on-gop-rep-scott-perrys-phone-records-for-more-j6-hounding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> by The Federalist, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-fbi-confiscates-cell-phone-of-republican-congressman\/\" title=\"BREAKING: ... Confiscates ... Of Republican Congressman\">federal agents confiscated<\/a> the Pennsylvania Republican&rsquo;s device as part of its Arctic Frost inquiry, which <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/05\/07\/senators-to-national-archives-turn-over-records-from-biden-admins-get-trump-lawfare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ultimately became<\/a>&nbsp;Special Counsel Jack Smith&rsquo;s elector lawfare against Trump.<\/p>\n<p>According to Jordan, at least &ldquo;one agent from the Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Inspector General (OIG)&rdquo; was involved with the seizure of Perry&rsquo;s phone. The congressman further noted how, &ldquo;According to reports, the Justice Department OIG used its laboratory in Northern Virginia to assist the FBI in conducting a forensic review of Representative Perry&rsquo;s phone.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Reports indicate that Representative Perry&rsquo;s phone &lsquo;was imaged after the search,&rsquo; creating a forensic copy of the device&rsquo;s contents &mdash; including communications protected by common-law privileges as well as the Constitution&rsquo;s Speech or Debate Clause,&rdquo; Jordan wrote. &ldquo;The OIG&rsquo;s assistance in imaging Representative Perry&rsquo;s phone raises serious concerns about why the OIG would be willing to sacrifice its independence to assist the FBI in advancing such a partisan investigation.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Judiciary Committee chair went on to highlight recent <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/10\/07\/docs-biden-fbi-spied-on-8-republican-senators-in-get-trump-probe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bombshell revelations<\/a> showing that the FBI, as part of its Arctic Frost lawfare, sought and obtained the phone records of eight GOP senators and a Republican House member. According to a Senate Judiciary Committee&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/press\/rep\/releases\/biden-fbi-spied-on-eight-republican-senators-as-part-of-arctic-frost-investigation-grassley-oversight-reveals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a>, the data acquired by the agency &ldquo;shows when and to whom a call is made, as well as the duration and general location data of the call,&rdquo; but &ldquo;does not include the content of the call.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;These reports raise concerns about the OIG&rsquo;s potential involvement in obtaining the Members&rsquo; phone records given its prior involvement in obtaining a Member&rsquo;s cell phone,&rdquo; Jordan wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Additional documents released by the Senate Judiciary Committee reveal that it was not only Republican members of Congress who were targeted as part of the Biden administration&rsquo;s get-Trump probe. <\/p>\n<p>As The Federalist <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/10\/29\/docs-biden-fbi-subpoenaed-records-of-major-conservatives-gop-groups-as-part-of-get-trump-probe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, the FBI &ldquo;filed subpoenas seeking the bank records and communications of numerous conservatives and Republican-affiliated organizations.&rdquo; This included individuals such as the Conservative Partnership Institute&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/10\/29\/seattle-fbi-probed-conservative-ceo-for-being-anti-biden-while-ignoring-antifa-violence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ed Corrigan<\/a>, Mark Meadows, and Cleta Mitchell, as well as groups like the Republican National Committee and America First Policy Institute. <\/p>\n<p><strong>[READ:[READ:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/10\/29\/100-times-worse-than-watergate-3-biggest-revelations-from-latest-arctic-frost-document-dump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&lsquo;100 Times Worse Than Watergate&rsquo;: 3 Biggest Revelations From Latest &lsquo;Arctic Frost&rsquo; Document Dump<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As part of the Judiciary Committee&rsquo;s ongoing investigation into Arctic Frost, Jordan requested that Berthiaume Jr. forfeit &ldquo;[a]ll documents and communications between or among employees of the OIG, DOJ, and FBI referring or relating to the seizure of cell phones from any Member of Congress&rdquo; and all such records &ldquo;between or among employees of the OIG, DOJ, and FBI referring or relating to obtaining or receiving phone records of any Member of Congress.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>He additionally asked that the DOJ OIG partake in a briefing with the committee to discuss its &ldquo;involvement in the Arctic Frost investigation.&rdquo; The congressman requested that all documents be turned over and the briefing be scheduled &ldquo;not later&rdquo; than 5 p.m. on Nov. 26. <\/p>\n<p> <a title=\"View House Judiciary Letter to DOJ IG on Scribd\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/947709542\/House-Judiciary-Letter-to-DOJ-IG#from_embed\">  House Judiciary Letter to DOJ IG <\/a> by <a title=\"View The Federalist's profile on Scribd\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/user\/274202084\/The-Federalist#from_embed\"> The Federalist <\/a> <\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Shawn Fleetwood is a staff writer for The Federalist and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington.
