Others, like Representative Dave Taylor (R-OH), chose to drive to avoid airport delays, while Democrats such as Jim McGovern (D-MA) took the train.House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) gave members short notice to return after the Senate passed a funding deal extending government operations until the end of January. Johnson requires nearly full attendance to pass the legislation, as the margin for lost votes is minimal with Democrats largely opposing the bill. Some members have expressed concerns about specific provisions in the bill, including impacts on the hemp industry. voting was expected to begin later in the day.

Start your engines: House members race back to Washington ahead of funding vote

House members racing to return to Washington ahead of Wednesday’s vote on a measure that would fund the government have taken matters into their own hands to ensure they get back in time.

As the government shutdown enters day 43, lawmakers have booked multiple flights, taken a train, driven, or, in the case of Rep.
