Kathy Hochul.<\/p>\n<p>Hochul is the Democrat who succeeded now former Gov. naturally &mdash; in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/09\/14\/opinion\/hochul-endorsement-mamdani.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a> in September, effectively tying herself to the new lunatic taking over New York City Hall <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/zohran-mamdani-sworn-nyc-mayor-175809185.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">come New Year&rsquo;s Day<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And perhaps most importantly, she&rsquo;s the Democrat who will be running for re-election next year after winning her own term outright in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>That means the team that couldn&rsquo;t stop Mamdani will have a second target to hit to slow down his socialist destruction of the financial capital of the world.<\/p>\n<p>That team is also likely to have a legitimate candidate to back in New York Rep. Elise Stefanik, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/elise-stefanik-calls-mamdani-jihadist-communist-response-nyt-hit-piece-critics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">straight-talking Republican<\/a> who already has an established national reputation.<\/p>\n<p>(She would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/alert-trump-pulls-stefanik-nomination-painful-strategic-decision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">almost certainly be<\/a> President Donald Trump&rsquo;s ambassador to the United Nations right now, if it weren&rsquo;t for the fact that Republicans need every vote in the House they can get to keep their razor-thin majority.)<\/p>\n<p>After Mamdani won the New York City Democratic mayoral primary in June, his opponents didn&rsquo;t have a legitimate candidate to take him on.<\/p>\n<p>On the Democratic side, he&rsquo;d already defeated both Andrew Cuomo &mdash; making an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/most-new-york-city-voters-want-adams-to-resign-as-cuomo-takes-commanding-primary-lead-poll-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Most New ... voters want Adams to resign as Cuomo takes commanding primary lead: Poll - Washington Examiner\">attempted political comeback<\/a> he never deserved &mdash; and incumbent Mayor Eric Adams.<\/p>\n<p>His Republican opponent was Curtis Sliwa, who&rsquo;s been a fixture of New York politics for half a century since founding the Guardian Angels subway security group in 1979. While Sliwa would no doubt be a better mayor than Mamdani &mdash; if only because he thinks crimes should be prevented and criminals punished &mdash; he didn&rsquo;t have a chance in deep-blue Gotham.<\/p>\n<p>But that fight is over, and Mamdani has swept the field, with his socialist utopia plans of free buses and free child care and rent freezes on already-rent-controlled apartments, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/chicago-mulls-government-owned-grocery-store-as-retailers-bolt-city\/\" title=\"Chicago considers government-owned grocery store as retailers leave city.\">government-run grocery stores<\/a>. (Democrats should ask immigrants from the former Soviet bloc countries how that turns out.)<\/p>\n<p>Now, other than leaving New York entirely (which is probably what the smart money eventually does), the best option his opponents have is adding their strength to the campaign to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-ny-gov-kathy-hochul-repeatedly-booed-state-ryder-cup-event-turns-awkward\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">defeat Hochul<\/a> next year.<\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s not written in stone that her GOP candidate will be Stefanik, but it would not be a bad idea to bet in that direction.<\/p>\n<p>And even if it&rsquo;s not going to be Stefanik, it&rsquo;s going to be someone, and that someone is going to be dangerous to the woman currently holding the office.<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani is going to be an embarrassment to New York and the country as a whole, with the potential to do terrible lasting damage to a once-great city.
