As of publication, preliminary results show Jones leading Miyares by 5.2 points, with 92 percent of votes tabulated.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1388550407\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The race to become Virginia&rsquo;s attorney general was rocked by a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/10\/03\/virginia-dem-ag-candidate-fantasized-about-assassinating-republican-wished-death-on-his-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">series of unearthed text messages<\/a> Jones sent to a state GOP lawmaker in 2022. First reported by National Review in early October, the messages showed Jones fantasizing about assassinating Virginia&rsquo;s then-Republican House speaker. <\/p>\n<p>As The Federalist&rsquo;s Breccan Thies&nbsp;summarized, &ldquo;Jones &hellip; presented a hypothetical &hellip; where he had only two bullets and three options to kill people: violent Cambodian dictator Pol Pot, responsible for millions of deaths; Adolf Hitler, another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/va-dem-ag-candidate-fantasized-about-assassinating-republican\/\" title=\"VA Dem AG Candidate Fantasized About ... Republican\">violent dictator responsible<\/a> for millions of deaths; or Gilbert, a Republican who served in the state House for nearly 20 years.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Gilbert gets two bullets to the head,&rdquo; Jones wrote in the text messages. &ldquo;Spoiler: put Gilbert in the crew with the two worst people you know and he receives both bullets every time.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Jones also &ldquo;suggested he wished Gilbert&rsquo;s wife could watch her own child die in her arms so that Gilbert might reconsider his political views&rdquo; in a follow-up phone call, &ldquo;prompting [the GOP state lawmaker] to hang up the phone in disgust,&rdquo; according to a source cited by National Review.<\/p>\n<p><strong>[READ:[READ:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/10\/06\/dems-wont-yank-endorsements-for-va-candidate-who-fantasized-about-assassination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dems Won&rsquo;t Yank Endorsements For VA Candidate Who Fantasized About Assassination<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Miyares <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/10\/16\/miyares-if-jones-were-actually-sorry-for-murder-fantasies-he-wouldnt-be-running\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blasted<\/a> Jones for wishing violence on his political opponent and his children during the two candidates&rsquo; Oct. 16 debate. Directly addressing Jones, the Republican AG said that if he were &ldquo;really sorry&rdquo; for his rhetoric, &ldquo;[he] wouldn&rsquo;t be running.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;How in the world could you ever show compassion and comfort a grieving mother that has ever lost a child to violence?&rdquo; Miyares said. &ldquo;Because Virginians, there is no cry like the cry of a mother that has lost her child. A prosecutor knows this because they&rsquo;ve stood in that courtroom. Jay Jones has never understood this because he&rsquo;s not a prosecutor. He&rsquo;s a politician trying to save his career.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong>[READ:[READ:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/10\/17\/virginia-democrats-voters-side-with-assassination-fetishist-jay-jones-gotta-fight-hardball\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Virginia Democrat Voters Side With Assassination Fetishist Jay Jones: &lsquo;Gotta Fight Hardball&rsquo;<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jones&rsquo; campaign was further marred by a 2022 speeding incident, in which he was charged with reckless driving for going 116 mph in a 70 mph stretch of highway. <\/p>\n<p>As The Federalist previously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/10\/24\/jay-jones-community-service-scandal-is-worse-than-you-think\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, Jones&rsquo; 1,000 hours of court-mandated community service were allegedly split between working at the Virginia NAACP and &ldquo;Meet Our Moment,&rdquo; Jones&rsquo; own political action committee that seeks to train Democrats to run for office. While it remains unclear how Jones spent his time with both organizations, it&rsquo;s worth noting that he and his then-law firm represented the Virginia NAACP in a lawsuit against GOP Gov.
