Campbell-Spickler added. &ldquo;The main perimeter fence was not breached in any way. Likely, he was just very intent on coming in and visiting our bears, so he could have climbed up into a tree and come over.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>While a variety of critters often visit the zoo, this was the facility&rsquo;s first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/major-turn-case-man-thought-brutally-killed-bear-now-investigated-homicide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bear<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Wild bears and other animals call Sequoia Park home, and we remind our guests to responsibly live alongside them by observing wildlife from a distance, staying on marked trails and always being aware of your surroundings,&rdquo; the zoo wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>Not to be confused with Sequoia National Park, Sequoia Park is a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >60-acre recreational area surrounding<\/a> the zoo, according to the City of Eureka <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurekaca.gov\/631\/Sequoia-Park\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>California has an estimated black bear population of about 49,000 to 71,000, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/wildlife.ca.gov\/Conservation\/Mammals\/Black-Bear\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">California Department of Fish and Wildlife<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While bear sightings in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/california-cop-stops-car-hand-drawn-license-plate-officer-gives-driver-points-creativity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">California<\/a> have become increasingly common, the state experienced its first fatal black bear attack in 2023, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2024-06-06\/first-deadly-black-bear-attack-in-california\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Los Angeles Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Patrice Miller, 71, was found mauled to death at her home in the town of Downieville.<\/p>\n<p>The bear responsible was later trapped and euthanized.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Black bears are not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/smallville-and-24-actor-julian-sands-goes-missing-in-california-mountains-family-issues-statement-as-search-continues\/\" title=\"\u201cSmallville\u201d and \u201c24\u201d Actor Julian Sands Goes Missing in ...
