In fact, that was the prevailing narrative when the White House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/10\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-announces-actions-to-lower-costs-and-expand-access-to-in-vitro-fertilization-ivf-and-high-quality-fertility-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> new guidance last week explicitly designed to &ldquo;increase access&rdquo; to in vitro fertilization. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We want to make it easier for all couples to have babies, raise children, and start the families they&rsquo;ve always dreamed about,&rdquo; Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/trump-announces-expanded-access-fertility-145753595.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The means the administration are promoting to seemingly reach that end &mdash; lowering the prices of IVF and other <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >assisted reproductive technology drugs<\/a> as well as offering a new employer fertility insurance benefit &mdash; however are morally, ethically, and functionally faulty. <\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>President Donald J. In fact, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/07\/25\/american-birth-rates-rates-drop-to-levels-of-civilizational-suicide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">now more than ever<\/a>, the U.S. could use a birth rate boost. <\/p>\n<p>That boost, however, cannot and should not come at the expense of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/life\/report\/why-the-ivf-industry-must-be-regulated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">93<\/a>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/gop-attempts-define-position-discarding-ivf-embryos-pro-life-stances\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">97<\/a>&nbsp;percent of the test tube babies who will not make it to birth or even a womb. There&rsquo;s no denying that expanding IVF not only&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/09\/babies-by-any-means-necessary-wont-fix-the-wests-fertility-woes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">does little to fix the West&rsquo;s fertility woes<\/a>, but also kills more unborn babies than abortion&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/257066\/more-human-embryos-destroyed-through-ivf-than-abortion-every-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">every year.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On the contrary, Big Fertility, whose biggest seller is IVF, routinely prioritizes&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/14\/its-time-to-stop-treating-assisted-reproductive-technology-as-a-quick-fix-for-infertility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">profit over people<\/a>. The industry offers anyone and everyone, regardless of their relationship status or sexuality, the opportunity to buy their way into parenthood&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/06\/22\/abortion-puts-selfish-wants-above-babies-rights-too-often-ivf-does-the-same\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">without regard for<\/a>&nbsp;children&rsquo;s natural rights. The consequences of this commodification include&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/07\/orchid-healths-genome-testing-promises-healthy-babies-but-delivers-morally-deplorable-eugenics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">normalized eugenics<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/14\/california-bill-would-make-insurance-fund-unlimited-attempts-to-create-motherless-and-fatherless-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">forced orphanhood<\/a>, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/22\/the-global-fertility-industry-seeks-to-erase-women-from-procreation-one-manufactured-egg-at-a-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">erasure of women<\/a>&nbsp;in reproduction,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/12\/14\/we-need-to-get-serious-about-meeting-advances-in-reproductive-tech-with-an-actionable-moral-framework\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fertility fraud<\/a>, more than a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/02\/02\/theres-only-one-way-for-the-1-million-embryos-stuck-in-frozen-orphanages-to-make-it-out-alive-adoption\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/maha-starts-with-addressing-root-causes-of-infertility\/\" title=\"MAHA Starts With Addressing Root Causes Of Infertility\">million indefinitely frozen embryos<\/a><\/a>, millions more discarded embryos, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/25\/what-if-we-can-heal-infertile-women-rather-than-turning-to-expensive-unethical-ivf-treatments-first\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deliberate ignorance of women&rsquo;s health solutions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s important to note that while the administration&rsquo;s announcement may not be perfect, it is far friendlier to the pro-life crowd than Trump&rsquo;s initial policy proposals.<\/p>\n<p>In August 2024, the then-presidential candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/08\/30\/trump-announced-taxpayer-funded-ivf-plan-because-pro-lifers-failed-to-step-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">declared<\/a> he would force American taxpayers to foot the bill for the procedure that predicates itself on the routine destruction of human life. Even before that, in <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/08\/trumps-mixed-messaging-on-abortion-and-ivf-plays-right-into-democrats-electoral-strategy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">April 2024<\/a>, Trump called for the creation of children by whatever <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trumps-mixed-messaging-on-abortion-and-ivf-plays-right-into-democrats-electoral-strategy\/\" title=\"...&#039;s contradictory stance on abortion and ... ...s Democrats&#039; electoral strategy\">outsourced reproductive means<\/a> necessary in each and every state.<\/p>\n<p>By August 2025, the White House <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/08\/04\/backpedaling-on-taxpayer-funded-ivf-would-be-a-trump-white-house-win-not-an-l\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">halted its plans to subsidize IVF<\/a>. The hold made sense in light of Trump&rsquo;s claims to support pro-life, pro-family, and pro-Make America Healthy Again principles. The administration&rsquo;s promotion of IVF, however, continued.  <\/p>\n<p>Trump&rsquo;s latest plan does technically <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JennieMFL\/status\/1978931871661654404\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leave the door open<\/a> for employers to cover restorative reproductive medicine, which is not only more cost-effective than IVF but also yields a <a href=\"https:\/\/eppc.org\/publication\/treating-infertility-the-new-frontier-of-reproductive-medicine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">historically higher success rate.<\/a> The White House&rsquo;s focus, however, is still not on treating the root cause of infertility. <\/p>\n<p>In the succinct words of the Ethics and Public Policy Center&rsquo;s Ryan Anderson: <a href=\"https:\/\/firstthings.com\/trumps-ivf-policy-could-be-worse-but-its-still-bad\/?utm_source=substack&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&ldquo;Trump&rsquo;s IVF Policy Could Be Worse, But It&rsquo;s Still Bad.&rdquo;<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>As EPPC fellow Patrick Brown <a href=\"https:\/\/ptbwrites.substack.com\/p\/is-the-pill-really-passe?utm_source=post-email-title&amp;publication_id=2781825&amp;post_id=176247848&amp;utm_campaign=email-post-title&amp;isFreemail=true&amp;token=eyJ1c2VyX2lkIjoyMjAzOTQ0OCwicG9zdF9pZCI6MTc2MjQ3ODQ4LCJpYXQiOjE3NjA3MTc0NzEsImV4cCI6MTc2MzMwOTQ3MSwiaXNzIjoicHViLTI3ODE4MjUiLCJzdWIiOiJwb3N0LXJlYWN0aW9uIn0.SVKI9CWStm3BPhzJ8_l-nSjEOzue6QCLL4n-hwYC1lE&amp;r=d4dqw&amp;triedRedirect=true&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote in his coverage of the announcement<\/a>, &ldquo;the guidance suggests pro-lifers still have friends in high places.&rdquo; He duly noted, however, that there is still plenty of room to make &ldquo;the broader case that IVF as often practiced in the U.S. will not, actually, raise birth rates, will open the door further to eugenics, and, ultimately, will usher in the greater instrumentalization of human life.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump confirmed the need for that kind of clear communication on Thursday. In response to a question posed by former Federalist Culture Editor turned UnHerd D.C. Correspondent Emily Jashinsky about his message to pro-life conservatives who &ldquo;have religious objections to IVF,&rdquo; Trump enthusiastically declared that his plan is &ldquo;very pro-life.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;You can&rsquo;t get more pro-life than this!&rdquo; he continued. <\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>&#8220;What&#8217;s your message to pro-life conservatives? Some pro-life conservatives have religious objections to IVF.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>POTUS: &#8220;I don&#8217;t know about the views of that&hellip;I think this is very pro-life. On its face, more babies and lowered drug prices <em>seem<\/em> like good causes. The truth, however, is <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/02\/25\/ivf-wont-maga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IVF simply won&rsquo;t MAGA<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The White House&rsquo;s plan, which hyperfixates on Big Pharma&rsquo;s inflation of fertility drug costs, completely fails to mention or even consider the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/08\/08\/ceo-of-ivf-eugenics-company-orchid-claims-culling-embryos-is-a-positive-moral-choice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bigger cost<\/a> that results from endorsing the unregulated creation and destruction of human life in its smallest form.
