the leader said. &ldquo;And so it&rsquo;s my expectation that if she is not sworn in today, during the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" ><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mcconnell-joins-with-schumer-to-block-potential-trump-veto-of-defense-bill-keep-big-tech-protection\/\" title=\"McConnell Joins With Schumer To Block Potential Trump VETO Of Defense Bill, Keep Big Tech Protection\">pro forma session<\/a> today<\/a>, as the attorney general from Arizona has made clear, expect swift and decisive legal action.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>His remarks come after he sent a letter to Johnson on Thursday, demanding Grijalva be sworn in as she won her special election <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3820711\/adelita-grijalva-wins-arizona-special-election-father-house-seat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nearly a month ago<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The decision to seat right-wing Republicans with record speed, while denying a newly elected Democrat the opportunity to serve is an unacceptable disgrace,&rdquo; Jeffries wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats are expected, as they have for weeks, to call on the presiding GOP speaker during Friday&rsquo;s pro forma session at 2 p.m. to swear in Grijalva. And it is expected, as they have for weeks, that Republicans will adjourn the House without recognizing the Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney General Kris Mayes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3849921\/arizona-officials-threaten-johnson-legal-action-swear-in-grijalva\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sent a letter to Johnson<\/a> on Tuesday stating that failure to swear in Grijalva or provide a &ldquo;reasonable explanation&rdquo; for when the ceremony will occur will &ldquo;prompt legal action.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Johnson brushed off Mayes&rsquo;s and Jeffries&rsquo;s legal threats during his press conference a half hour later on Friday, saying he thought &ldquo;Hakeem was a better attorney than that.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It&rsquo;s a publicity stunt by a Democrat attorney general in Arizona who sees a national moment and wants to call me up,&rdquo; the speaker added. &ldquo;She has nothing whatsoever to do with what&rsquo;s happening in Congress.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> reached out to Mayes to determine if a lawsuit would come today if Grijalva were not sworn in.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As the shutdown enters its fourth week and the House reaches almost a straight month of recess, Democrats have become increasingly vocal in demanding that Johnson swear in Grijalva, who will succeed her late father.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dozens from the Democratic Women&rsquo;s Caucus and other Democrats marched to Johnson&rsquo;s office on Tuesday, chanting, &ldquo;Swear her in.&rdquo; But Johnson was not there because he was attending the Charlie Kirk Medal of Freedom ceremony at the White House.<\/p>\n<p>The swearing-in dilemma has been a thorn in Johnson&rsquo;s side for weeks, with the speaker visibly frustrated that he keeps being pressed on the issue. He&rsquo;s repeatedly told reporters that he plans to swear in Grijalva once the government reopens.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3854305\/shutdown-frustrates-gop-appropriators-freeze-funding-process\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SHUTDOWN FRUSTRATES GOP APPROPRIATIONS CARDINALS AS STANDOFF FREEZES FUNDING PROCESS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Rep.-elect Grijalva has been congratulated for winning her late father&rsquo;s seat; we love that,&rdquo; Johnson said. &ldquo;We&rsquo;re going to administer the oath to her as soon as we get to our regular legislative session. I&rsquo;ve said a thousand times, that&rsquo;s the issue.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Johnny Olszewski (D-MD) is expected to call on the presiding GOP speaker in Friday&rsquo;s pro forma and demand Grijalva be sworn in. Rep. Greg Stanton (D-AZ), the Arizona delegation, and Rep.
