Dave Taylor (R-OH) said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/us-capitol-police\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Capitol Police<\/a> launched an investigation after a Zoom call caught an American flag depicting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/3786132\/finland-swastikas-unit-flags\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">swastika<\/a> in his office.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Rooster<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/rooster_ohio\/status\/1978517287654068611\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">published<\/a> a photo of Taylor&rsquo;s legislative correspondent, Angelo Elia, taken during a Zoom call. In the background, alongside memes of Ohio, an American flag could be seen with the stripes altered to make a swastika. The content of that image does not reflect the values or standards of this office, my staff, or myself, and I condemn it in the strongest terms,&rdquo; he said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/taylor.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/congressman-taylor-issues-statement-office-vandalism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca Thompson, Taylor&rsquo;s communications director, described the placement of the flag in his office as &ldquo;vile vandalism.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Capitol police couldn&rsquo;t be reached for comment due to the government shutdown.<\/p>\n<p>The incident was quickly picked up by Democrats, who have latched on to a story from <em>Politico<\/em> about a Telegram group chat in which Young Republicans privately joked about the Holocaust and Adolf Hitler. Taylor&rsquo;s X account was bombarded with comments calling him a Nazi.<\/p>\n<p>The altered flag was also denounced by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) at a Thursday press conference. He praised Taylor for reporting the flag to Capitol police.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3849612\/mike-johnson-volume-democrats-shutdown-bring-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JOHNSON TURNS UP VOLUME ON DEMOCRATS IN SHUTDOWN STANDOFF, TELLING THEM TO &lsquo;BRING IT&rsquo;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I would say, obviously, that is not the principles of the Republican Party.
