This means teens may occasionally encounter mildly risky content, similar to language or themes allowed in PG-13 films, but with stricter restrictions overall. Content promoting alcohol,tobacco,or hazardous stunts will be blocked by default,even if shown by accounts the teens follow. This new setting aims to hide more potentially inappropriate content than previous teen account controls and will be fully implemented by the end of the year. Mosseri emphasized the importance of balancing user engagement with mental health, stating that promoting excessive app usage is ultimately harmful to the business. than the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/technology\/3156866\/instagram-teen-accounts-revamp-safety-minors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">default teen account setting<\/a> did, according to a press release. Teen accounts were unveiled over a year ago, about five months after the platform began <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2962831\/instagram-to-blur-nudity-in-order-to-prevent-sextortion-among-teenage-users\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blurring nudity<\/a> for teenage users.<\/p>\n<p>Mosseri explained that content that is &ldquo;promoting alcohol or tobacco&rdquo; or &ldquo;overly risky stunts&rdquo; will be blocked under the default feature announced Tuesday. As a result, Instagram will prevent teenage users from seeing this content even when accounts that they&rsquo;re following display it. This feature will be fully rolled out to all teen accounts by the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>TODAY co-host Craig Melvin asked Mosseri about the time teenage users spend on Instagram. Before this new feature, Instagram sent a default notification to teen accounts after an hour, suggesting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/technology\/3156866\/instagram-teen-accounts-revamp-safety-minors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">that the teen turn the app off<\/a>.
