But 40 hearings, motions, and conferences later, McAlister has yet to stand trial, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/thevoicesf.org\/despite-91-felonies-two-deaths-and-25-years-of-chances-public-defender-wants-diversion-for-troy-mcalister\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Voice of San Francisco<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the latest delay, an Oct. 3 hearing originally intended to set a jury trial was instead used as another hearing on McAlister&rsquo;s behalf: His public defender requested that, rather than face prosecution, McAlister be placed in a drug diversion program, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-15166443\/troy-mcalister-release-san-francisco-killed-women.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.K.&rsquo;s Daily Mail<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>If Superior Court Judge Michael Begert approves, McAlister&rsquo;s case would be transferred to <a href=\"https:\/\/sf.courts.ca.gov\/divisions\/collaborative-courts\/drug-court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Francisco Drug Court<\/a>, which focuses on treatment and therapy, rather than imprisonment, <a href=\"https:\/\/sfist.com\/2025\/09\/30\/infamous-new-years-eve-dui-hit-and-run-suspect-troy-mcalister-seeking-diversion-instead-of-jail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SFist reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Research continuously shows that <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >long-term structured treatment<\/a> far, far improves public safety over simple incarceration,&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/fNq7eBhis1\">pic.twitter.com\/fNq7eBhis1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Unlimited L&rsquo;s (@unlimited_ls) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/unlimited_ls\/status\/1975302286969631204?\">October 6, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>It was Dec. 31, 2020, when McAlister allegedly struck Elizabeth Platt, 60, and Hanako Abe, 27, with a stolen car he was driving.<\/p>\n<p>McAlister, who was on parole for robbery, was reportedly high on meth when he killed Platt and Abe.<\/p>\n<p>He fled the scene on foot before police arrested and booked him for more than a dozen crimes, including manslaughter, driving a stolen vehicle, hit and run, and driving under the influence, according to The Voice of San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p>He was also reportedly in possession of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/flight-attendant-pleads-guilty-using-meth-taking-clothes-off-mid-flight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">methamphetamines<\/a> and an illegally owned firearm.<\/p>\n<p>McAlister had a criminal history dating back years, with his most recent arrest happening 10 days before his hit and run, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/crime\/article\/troy-mcalister-judge-mental-health-diversion-21073321.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Francisco Chronicle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Months before the incident, McAlister had already committed multiple parole violations, for which then-District Attorney Chesa Boudin did not seek punishment.<\/p>\n<p>Following a 2015 robbery incident, and other violent felonies, McAlister at one point faced life in prison.
