The indictment stems from allegations that James misrepresented property details to secure favorable mortgage loans-a charge similar to accusations she previously brought against former President Donald trump. Specifically, James is accused of falsely claiming a Virginia property as her primary residence, despite legal requirements to have her principal residence in New York. Additionally, she allegedly misrepresented details about a Brooklyn multi-family unit to meet lending criteria. These allegations come after a criminal referral for mortgage fraud was recently issued against her. Throughout her tenure, James has firmly stated that &#8220;no one is above the law&#8221; and emphasized equal legal standards for all. indictment were not immediately available, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/new-york-ag-james-trump-foe-indicted-bank-fraud-2025-10-09\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reported James was indicted for bank fraud, citing a source familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-718929927\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Notably, James was hit with a criminal referral just recently for alleged mortgage fraud. <\/p>\n<p>James allegedly misrepresented property details to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >secure <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/review-the-last-emperor-of-mexico\/\" title=\"REVIEW: \u2018The Last Emperor of Mexico\u2019\">favorable loan terms<\/a> &#038;mdash<\/a>; the same thing she took Trump through the wringer for just last year. <\/p>\n<p>According to an earlier report from the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/15\/us-news\/trump-administration-refers-ny-ag-tish-james-for-prosecution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New York Post<\/a>, which obtained a letter sent to Attorney General Pam Bondi from Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte, James allegedly &ldquo;falsified records&rdquo; to obtain loans for her home in Virginia that she claimed was her &ldquo;principal residence.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>James, both at the time and currently, is the <em>New York<\/em> attorney general.<\/p>\n<p>As Pulte reportedly wrote in the letter, James is &ldquo;required by law to have her primary residence in the state of New York &mdash; even though her mortgage applications list her intent to have the Norfolk, VA, property as her primary home.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>James was further alleged to have &ldquo;consistently misrepresented&rdquo; a five-family unit she previously purchased in 2001 in Brooklyn &ldquo;as only having four units in both building permit applications and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/letitia-james-faces-criminal-referral-for-alleged-mortgage-fraud\/\" title=\"Letitia ... faces criminal referral for ...\">numerous mortgage documents<\/a> and applications.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Pulte alleged that James &ldquo;appears to have falsified records in order to meet certain lending requirements and receive favorable loan terms,&rdquo; according to the NYP report.  <\/p>\n<p>James has consistently <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TishJames\/status\/1757814418807656851\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">proclaimed<\/a> that &ldquo;nobody is above the law&rdquo; and that &ldquo;there simply cannot be different rules for different people.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;When powerful people cheat to get better loans, it comes at the expense of hardworking people. Everyday Americans cannot lie to a bank to get a mortgage, and if they did, our government would throw the book at them,&rdquo; James&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NewYorkStateAG\/status\/1758604686154735660\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>&nbsp;in a post on X.<\/p>\n<p>James waged lawfare against Trump after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2018\/12\/19\/new-yorks-next-attorney-general-targeted-slumlords-now-shes-going-after-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">campaigning<\/a> on targeting him. James accused Trump of inflating his personal wealth to get more favorable loan terms. <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/08\/08\/report-doj-opens-grand-jury-probe-into-ny-ag-letitia-james-get-trump-lawfare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Notably<\/a>, none of the banks, insurers, and others who worked with Trump claimed to have been injured. <\/p>\n<p>Despite no victims, Trump was ultimately found liable and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/16\/trump-fined-350-million-in-democrats-latest-gambit-to-rig-the-2024-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ordered<\/a> by Judge Arthur Engoron to pay a penalty that would ultimately exceed $500 million. Trump appealed the exorbitant ruling, and in August, a New York appellate court <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/08\/21\/court-finds-ny-judgment-against-trump-unconstitutional-throws-out-515m-penalty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tossed <\/a>out the &ldquo;unconstitutional&rdquo; civil fraud penalty.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Brianna Lyman is an elections correspondent at The Federalist.
